Danvers, Massachusetts, houses Medtronic's Extrusion Technology Center of Excellence, where we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Materials Engineer to bolster our Braiding operations.
The Principal Materials Engineer will operate with minimal supervision, providing guidance to technicians and production associates. Their responsibilities encompass a range of mechanical, electromechanical, or electronic technical tasks related to braiders. This includes fabrication, testing, debugging, and documentation of assemblies, sub-assemblies, engineering development models, and adaptations of standard products, ranging from moderately complex to highly intricate.
A Day in the Life
As the Principal Materials Engineer, you will:
Analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems, and subsystems. Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic, and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures. Advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulate, deliver and/or manage projects assigned and work with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. Act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower-level professionals. Exercise considerable latitude in determining deliverables of assignments, with limited oversight from manager. Coach, review and delegate work to lower-level specialists. Contribute to defining the direction for new products, processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategy with a significant impact on work group results. Manage large projects or processes that span outside of immediate job area. Develop solutions to moderately complex problems, and/or make moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems, or products independently to enhance performance of job area. Represent organization as a primary contact for specific projects and initiatives; communicate with internal and external customers and vendors at various levels.Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experienceNice to Have
Experience with Braiding/ Winding operations. Start-up and Troubleshoot Extrusion / Braiding processes. Knowledge of Plastics Processing and Plastics machinery maintenance. Recommended basic job knowledge of production related systems and procedures. Experience with buying tooling spares and maintaining inventory. 5S and Lean Manufacturing Skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Good mechanical problem-solving skills. Ability to escalate equipment downtime to relevant individuals/ groups. Ability to work well on teams. Experience with GMP requirements and medical industry requirements. Good electrical problem-solving skills. Previous Medical Device Manufacturing. Progressive technical certifications. Excellent manual dexterity. Ability to use bench top test equipment and custom manufacturing test stations. Available for limited travel - for training purposes. Experience in process and tooling development, test method development, data acquisition and analysis. Clear understanding of EHS requirements. Proficient in Outlook, Excel, Word.
