Job Description

Under administrative direction, the Assistant Director for Data Analytics and Business Intelligence holds a pivotal role in leading, orchestrating, and managing the comprehensive development, implementation, and maintenance of the data reporting and analytics infrastructure for the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE). Collaborating closely with FSE leadership, key stakeholders and multiple units, the Assistant Director charts and executes the strategic trajectory of FSE's data initiatives.

Essential Duties

Architectural Leadership: Plans and directs the architectural components of the business intelligence and data analytics infrastructure to support overall data management, data quality, and information needs for key decision makers and Fulton Schools stakeholders student and class reporting; research reports; reporting in WorkDay; financial planning reports; budget reports; human resources reporting; etc). Team Supervision and Management: Oversees a dynamic data team, providing guidance and support in navigating complex challenges inherent in supporting FSE leadership's strategic planning, academic program development, and management analysis. Counsels members of the FSE data team as well as data users across FSE in their use of data, reports, assignments and activities. Data Analysis and Modeling: Provides intricate analysis to formulate robust assessment plans, meet information demands, gauge program outcomes, define performance indicators, and produce accountability reports, all underscored by a commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement. Strategic Planning Support: Provides assistance with the development of goals and objectives, program plans, performance indicators and accountability reports that may include conferring with central university offices and key stakeholders. Benchmarking & Analysis:  Coordinates the completion of benchmarking analyses, completes national surveys and creates ranking improvement plans with extreme attention to detail. Environmental Scanning: Assembles data from the scan of economic, sociological, technological, political, demographic and educational environments related to the trends and issues of strategic planning and institutional research. Performance Reporting: Develops performance indicators and accountability reports for new programs and budget units including the 8 schools within FSE.  Report & Dashboard Development: Conceive, construct, and deliver reports (both written and verbal) alongside intuitive dashboards, serving as vital conduits of data, statistics, and analytics to a diverse array of stakeholders and administrators. Collaborative Initiatives: Fosters synergistic relationships with the FSE Engineering Technical Services (ETS) office and the FSE Learning and Teaching Hub (LTH) to refine and amplify the efficiency and effectiveness of reports and dashboards, thereby maximizing their utility and impact. Partners and coordinates with the University Enterprise Technology office and other central units such as Provost office, Human Resources and Graduate College to find new ways to capture, access and present data. Training and Development:  Develops and counsels planning analysts and other members of the FSE data team as well as data users across FSE in their use of data, reports, assignments and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in a related business field like statistics, finance, or management information systems; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Evidence of an advanced degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics and experience in data or business analytics. Experience in program or project management. Experience in strategic planning principles and practices. Experience in using problem solving and decision-making skills. Experience in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities. Experience in effective management, supervision and evaluating staff. Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills. Experience in effectively communicating complex issues to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise, including presenting complex technical issues to senior leadership. Experience with US News Surveys and ranking improvement plans. Experience benchmarking against other Engineering schools. Experience with business intelligence query tools. Experience with business intelligence visualization tools, with particular emphasis on Tableau. Advanced experience and skillset using Excel. Experience with PeopleSoft student and employee data. Experience with Workday financial system and Salesforce CRM. Experience developing and running complex data queries and working with large, complex data sets with great attention to details. Experience working in a college/university setting. Demonstrated commitment to advancing inclusive excellence in the workplace, field, and/or community.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
