Job Description

Overview:

Drives commercial combination truck requiring a class A CDL between local facilities.  At times longer trips may be required. 

Here’s what you’ll do:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect trucks per DOT regulations and complete daily inspection sheets
  • Maintain log sheets per DOT regulations
  • Perform minor maintenance to the commercial trucks and trailers as required
  • Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus. Hooks and unhooks trucks to trailer hitch, and transports load to designated area.
  • Weighs materials or products and records weight on tags, labels, or production schedules.
  • Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site.
  • Reads work orders or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved
  • Opens containers, using steel cutters, grinder, crowbar, claw hammer, or other hand tools.
  • Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using hand tools.
  • Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
  • Required to clean trucks on a pre-scheduled basis
  • Required to add diesel fuel to the trucks at a designated location
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor

FOOD SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

The employee shall take all reasonable measures and precautions to ensure compliance with 21CFR 110. Disease Control: Any employee who, by medical examination or supervisory observation, is shown to have, or appears to have, an illness, open lesion, including boils, sores, or infected wounds, or any other abnormal source of microbial contamination by which there is a reasonable possibility of food, food-contact surfaces, or food packaging materials becoming contaminated, shall be excluded from any operations which may be expected to result in such contamination until the condition is corrected.

    • Cleanliness: All employees working in direct contact with food, food-contact surfaces, and food-packaging materials shall conform to hygienic practices while on duty to the extent necessary to protect against contamination of food.
    • Be aware of and comply with current good manufacturing practices regarding; proper food handling techniques, food-protection principles, the danger of poor personal hygiene and unsanitary practices.

Qualifications

Here's what you'll bring to the table:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years truck driving experience
  • Class A CDL with no restrictions and an active medical card
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as company policies, SDS, operating and maintenance instructions, manifests, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
