Structural EngineerGENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)Terra Nova Technologies (TNT), a subsidiary of Cementation, based in San Diego, designs, supplies, delivers, and installs material handling systems for mining and mineral processing, coal, aggregate, and cement clients throughout the world. Our experience includes delivery of mobile stacking systems, crushing plants, and conveyor projects (stockpile, overland, underground, in-pit, and In-plant) in 15 countries on 6 continents. We currently hold about 80% of the world market in the manufacture and installation of multiple-lift heap leach stacking systems.TNT currently has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineering position in our San Diego, and our Boise ID, location and reporting to the Engineering Manager in San Diego. This role has the overall responsibility for providing Structural Engineering Services on a variety of material handling projects. If you have a successful track record and thrive on challenges in a fast-paced environment, this is the opportunity for you.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESFunctional ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the design and specification of structural equipment required for the support of underground and aboveground mining, mineral processing, materials handling, and other heavy industrial applications. Reviewing client specifications, design criteria, and documentsDevelop project-specific structural specifications and design criteriaDevelop and provide recommendations for complex structural designsPerform detailed structural calculations using Bentley RAM SoftwareFamiliar with other structural software (Bentley Staad Pro, Autodesk Robot, SAP 2000) an assetResponsible for calculation reportsPreparation of conveyor/equipment steel and concrete MTOsReview project structural designs and drafting development for quality and accuracyWork closely with designers to create and review engineering drawingsMonitor project deliverables, schedules, progress reports for structural itemsWorking alongside and directly with other Structural, Mechanical and Electrical engineers as part of a project teamAssist in feasibility studies and estimatesSupervise and mentor junior level engineersOther duties as assignedHealth & SafetyWork in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation and TNTIncorporate Health and Safety considerations in all functions and daily activities of the positionMonitor work environment for health and safety hazards or infractions and reports the same to Health and Safety DepartmentKeep work area clean and free of clutterUse proper equipment for the job, i.e. stepladder vs. chairQUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceDegree in Civil/Structural Engineering10+ years of experience with material handling, structural design experience in mining/heavy industryRegistered as a professional engineer Understanding structural codes and standards requiredKnowledge of US structural codes and standards, including ASCE-7 requiredUnderstanding international structural codes and standards is an assetCertificate(s), License(s), Registration(s)Professional Engineer with (PE) designation preferredPMP designation or accreditation preferredSkills, Knowledge, & AbilitiesAbility to travel/site visits (short-term basis) requiredSome Supervision of design and drafting personnel on various projectsStrategic leadership skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to implement strategic initiatives that positively impact the operations' business plans, operating profits, practices, policies, and proceduresDecision making and prioritization skills Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Strong planning and organizing skills Possess problem solving, critical thinking skillsProven customer service management experience General knowledge of applicable mining regulations, safety codes and actsCementation & TNT is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
