Junior Azure Systems Administrator

DTSI is seeking a Junior Azure Systems Administrator to be responsible for managing and maintaining the cloud infrastructure on the Microsoft Azure platform for the Air Force electronic Freedom of Information Act (eFOIA) program. This role involves ensuring the availability, performance, and security of Azure resources. The Junior Azure Systems Administrator provides support for the sustainment of the eFOIA production application within the current hosting environment at Cloud One. This requires continuous engagement and clear communication with the eFOIA PMO, eFOIA Functional Management Office (SAF/A6XA), and the hosting environment to perform support services. This critical position directly supports the eFOIA production environment to include the installation, upgrade, configuration, documentation, patching and performance of the eFOIA system.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage Azure Resources: Oversee the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Azure services, including virtual machines, storage accounts, and networking components
  • Monitor and Optimize Performance: Continuously monitor the performance of resources and implement optimizations to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Security Management: Implement and manage security measures to protect resources and data including identity and access management, encryption, and ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Provide advanced troubleshooting and support of the eFOIA program ensuring minimal downtime and quick resolution of problems
  • Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and other tools to streamline operations and improve consistency
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development, security, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of Azure services. Provide all system administration support for migration to upgraded virtual servers running the latest Air Force approved version of Microsoft Server software
  • Technical Specifications: Monitor operational functionality requirements and build technical specifications and requirements as needed
  • System Components: Install, upgrade, configure, document, patch, and monitor the performance of the system components. Troubleshoot, and resolve issues regarding STIG compliance, Security and PKI authentication, mitigation of vulnerabilities derived from security scans, security incident management, and Time Compliance Network Order (TCNO) compliance
  • Technical Solutions: Analyze, develop, test and implement elevated technical issues that require long-term fixes and solutions exceeding helpdesk capabilities
  • Maintenance Actions: Develop, test, and execute Startup/Shutdown, Backup and Restore Procedures
  • Configuration: Modify scripts, code, database queries, and custom applets to correct problems or provide functional capabilities required through the configuration control processes
  • Application Maintenance: As necessary, provide major software upgrades, test new patches, administer hotfix solutions and write system and software test reviews
  • Helpdesk Solutions: Assisting Tier 1 (SAF-CIO A6X) helpdesk personnel with elevated issues by validating and troubleshooting issues and Tier III via phone and web-based troubleshooting
  • Software and Hardware Support: Troubleshoot known and unidentified software/hardware issues for possible solutions prior to elevating issues via trouble tickets to the Cloud One helpdesk
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Liaison with software vendor as needed for advanced troubleshooting
  • Customization: Customize vendor supplied applications and databases to meet customer specifications
  • Hosting: Coordinate with server hosting organization for sustainment and troubleshooting
  • Server Requirements: Interpret, test, and implement security requirements for Microsoft IIS, Microsoft SQL Server, and the eFOIA application while providing server patching, security review, and coordinated server support as necessary
  • Test Environment: Build and maintain Cloud One test environment to test, evaluate, document, and support implementation of eFOIA application upgrades
  • Compliance: Uphold compliance with all federal and company policies and procedures to include GDPR, HIPAA, and PII.
  • Automation and Scripting: Maintain proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell or equivalent and experience with automation tools and frameworks to streamline cloud operations
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to continued Azure training, best practices, and industry trends
  • Training: Participation in relevant continuing education certification programs
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform job related duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of equivalent experience or 5 years of equivalent experience
  • On-call/Weekend availability as required by program needs
  • In-depth knowledge and proficiency in Azure services, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS and efficiency in managing Azure resources using Azure Portal, PowerShell, Azure CLI, and ARM templates
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including virtual networks, VPNs, and load balancers
  • Security and Compliance: Experience with Azure security best practices, including identity and access management, network security, and data protection
  • Experience with Microsoft IIS, HTML, and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) proficiency
  • Basic understanding of the eFOIA process

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Redis
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and address bottlenecks and other operational challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive initiatives forward
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment

Security Requirements:

  • Active secret security clearance
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification: Security+
