BMC is looking for a talented Quality Automation Engineer to join our family working on complex DB2 mainframe software, developing automated tests, executing test plans, and assisting the firm in assuring product quality.

The Quality Automation Engineer is a contributing member of the Quality Assurance team responsible for testing and quality assurance of software products under the guidance of senior leaders. The role requires some knowledge of product domain, the software development life cycle and the processes involved in product Quality Assurance and system maintenance. Uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to assist in solving problems.

As an automation engineer you will be designing and executing test cases for product maintenance, newly built Product features, Enhancements and automate tests using hybrid automation framework with our SQL Performance for Db2 suite of products, focusing on the Apptune for Db2 product. You'll play a critical role in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

Guidelines/Duties:

  • Assists with training of earlier career staff.
  • Works under guidance of senior staff members.
  • Accurately estimates the size and scope of the Quality Assurance projects.
  • Tests product code according to BMC quality standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of product environments and applicable software technologies.
  • Provides complete documentation in the form of test plans, automation, regression, problem status information with guidance from senior staff.
  • Completes deliverables on schedule.
  • Supports systems and integration testing as required to provide a quality product.
  • Clear understanding of systems required for testing and product installation.
  • Provides input to the Technical Writers for relevant product documentation.
  • Works with other teams in Quality Assurance as well as other areas such as Development, IDD and Support to deliver quality products and customer satisfaction.
  • Participates in customer interactions when required.
  • Support cross-functional teams in customer specific escalations.
  • Manage expectations through clear issue management.
  • Conducts and participates in team test plan (and other artifact) reviews.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work with developers, architects, and other Quality Assurance team members to validate product functionality, via manual or automated execution of test cases
  • Identify end user scenarios and pertinent test cases and document and track all discovered issues and defects, and validate fixes provided by developers
  • Contribute to product and process improvements and refinement of QA practices and understand product capabilities from perspective of customers
  • Will be involved in showcase/demo product to customers and any other stakeholders, if required
  • Write test automation scripts using automation framework for regression testing
  • Will be involved in problem solving, debugging the issues and automate the manual assignments

To ensure you're set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:

  • Able to manage a mixed workload of multiple ongoing tasks in all areas of Quality Assurance including new product, regression, integration, PTF testing, etc.
  • May determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Experience with QA test automation scripting language
  • Experience with QA test automation scripting framework is mandatory.
  • Works under guidance of senior staff members.
  • Self-starter able to work independently to provide quality solutions with little oversight.
  • Experience with Agile development methodology
  • Good experience with TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, z/OS Utilities, JES2
  • Knowledge/experience of RACF and REXX recommended.
  • 5+ years of experience with QA test automation of z/OS products
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science
  • A good knowledge of product domain, the software development life cycle and the processes involved in product Quality Assurance and system maintenance is required.
  • Position requires the candidate to be a fast learner, good team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Good proficiency in English language is required.
