The AI Innovation Analyst I is responsible for supporting the City's efforts to evaluate, develop, and implement artificial intelligence (AI) and automation solutions that enhance operational efficiency, citizen services, and data-informed decision-making. This entry-level role focuses on assisting with AI research, developing AI chatbots and agents, exploring and implementing off-the-shelf AI solutions, developing AI solutions, and supporting practical AI use cases across departments while ensuring compliance with ethical, legal, and transparency standards.The items below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by an individual assigned to this position. Essential Job DutiesAI and Automation Development
Assist in identifying and evaluating opportunities to apply artificial intelligence, automation, or data-driven tools to improve City operations and public services.
Support the development and implementation of AI models, chatbots, and workflow automation solutions using the AI tools necessary.
Conduct research and testing of AI technologies to determine suitability and impact for municipal use cases City wide.
AI Governance and Compliance
Assist in implementing the City's AI governance framework in alignment with the Federal and Texas Government Code, e.g. Chapter 552, Subchapter J (§552.371–§
Maintain documentation of AI projects, ensuring transparency, ethical use, and data privacy compliance.
Support responsible data handling, ensuring AI solutions comply with information security and confidentiality standards.
Data Preparation and Integration
Prepare structured and unstructured data for use in AI and automation systems.
Collaborate with IT staff and departments to collect, clean, and organize datasets for machine learning and automation tools.
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency in AI-related systems.
Training and Support
Support user adoption of AI tools through demonstrations, documentation, and basic training.
Provide assistance to City staff in understanding and utilizing AI-enabled applications.
Work with departments to identify training needs, AI use cases and communicate new AI capabilities.
Website and Digital Content Support
Manage and update AI-integrated website or intranet tools, such as chatbots or knowledge assistants, to improve user engagement and service delivery.
Conduct periodic audits to ensure content, accessibility, and interactive tools remain up to date and user-friendly.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with City departments to gather operational requirements for AI projects.
Translate technical concepts into clear language for internal and public communication.
Support project documentation, reporting, and presentation of AI outcomes to City leadership.
Security and Risk Management
Ensure that AI and automation solutions adhere to cybersecurity, data protection, and ethical standards.
Assist with access management and monitoring for AI platforms and related data resources.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
- Ability to work in a typical office environment with standard office equipment
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Basic understanding of artificial intelligence, automation, and emerging technologies.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
- Basic understanding of programming or scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript.
- Familiarity with cloud-based AI services (e.g., Microsoft Azure AI, Google AI, or OpenAI API).
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- A proactive, curious, and self-motivated approach to technology and innovation.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Certification:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI Engineering or a related degree plus one year of experience in a related field is required. Four years' experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- CompTIA Data+ or CompTIA AI Essentials or Azure AI Engineer Associate (Preferred)
- Certified Associate in Python Programming (Optional)
