Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for patient care and possess a diverse skill set to provide comprehensive nursing services.
Responsibilities
Medication Nurse Job Description (Clinical Staff)
All Registered and Licensed Vocational Nurses must be licensed in Texasin compliance with the official code of the state of Texas and must maintain their license in good standing.
Any Licensed Vocational Nurses on staff at GTC will be supervised by the Registered Nurse/Lead nurse at GTC. In the absence of the Registered Nurse the Licensed Vocational Nurse will be supervised by the Medical Director. This policy is to ensure that all written protocols are followed and appropriate nursing care is being delivered.
Medication duties
§ Enter and review physician's order prior to medicating patient.
§ Assess patients for titration protocol and follow through.
§ Will administer methadone during the appointed dosing hours.
§ Review patient information in computer prior to medicating.
§ Verify medication milligrams, last day dosed, take outs received, phase level, and nurse's name from other clinics for guest dosers.
§ Label all take-home doses appropriately.
§ Fill out a handwritten log that has spaces for the patient's number, dose, form of medication, take-homes received, total milligrams received, patient's initials, and the dosing personnel's initials.
§ Receive verbal orders via phone from physician.
§ Write up any "unusual incident" regarding the safety of the methadone or suspected diversion on provided forms.
§ Have knowledge of Federal, State and local laws governing methadone treatment and the dispensing of a Schedule II narcotic.
§ Write nursing notes at least monthly on all patients.
§ Make sure all paperwork is filed in medical charts in a timely manner.
§ Write nursing notes and verbal orders on the day any dose changes, re-doses, or when any other incident that varies from normal procedures occurs.
§ Sign patient medication summary daily.
§ Attach any incident report to the Patient Daily Dosing Summary.
§ File all computer generated forms daily.
§ Enter all doctors orders into computer
§ Read all TB's and sign form
§ Get patient to sign their medical advisory form
§ Enter, carry out and delete flags once action is taken
§ Clean dosing room PRN.
§ Empty trash
Audit of Methadone
§ Total milligrams administered total number of take-outs given and total milligrams of take-outs dispensed at the end of day.
§ Audit stocked methadone in safe - count the units daily.
§ Perform a check and balance against the inventory in the computer.
§ Run methadone inventory and medicating summary daily.
§ Duties may include items not included in the above list assist with intake admits.
Medication Nurse Position is supervised by the Medical Director, Program Director and the Executive Director.
Accuracy and organization are vital components of this position and GTC staff members are expected to strive to meet the highest standards of excellence regarding quality of work.
Position Requirements: Registered Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of Texas and maintain license in good standing.
