SummaryThis position is an integral part of the urgent care team and requires the ability to work effectively with Providers and other ancillary staff to deliver high quality, timely, compassionate care.Under direct supervision of the provider, will be responsible for patient assessment, providing assistance with patient procedures, completing in office lab testing, splinting fractures, and educating the patient on their discharge instructions in the urgent care/occupational health setting.  This position requires knowledge of specialty and/or primary care symptom management and a variety of medications to be able to assess, plan and deliver timely and appropriate care, especially in emergency situations.This position is responsible for coordinating care and leading other staff team members in the delivery of patient care.  The RN is required to have the skills to complete venipuncture's, pulmonary function testing and administer medications ordered by the provider during the patient visit.  The nurse is responsible for communicating to the patient their lab and radiology results when directed by the provider. This position may assist with the coordination and training of new employees ensuring that they have completed the required competency skills and training documentation. The RN may be required to order medical, and pharmacy supplies, and office supplies to manage patient care.  They will assure compliance with all the policies/procedures of MyMichigan Health and follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations, and all appropriate regulatory agencies.Also, may perform other practice duties (occupational health patient care follow up, keyboarding, filing, telephone, computer and office equipment) as needed.  The expectations outlined in this job description may vary slightly depending on the practice in which you are assigned.  Your immediate supervisor will be able to clarify your responsibilities for you. Responsibilities(50%)*  Greets patients and/or family, takes vital signs, obtains/reviews medical, social, surgical and medication history, and allergy information.  Prepares patient for examination, performs procedures in accordance with standing orders.  Completes in office labs; urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep screens, EKG's, TB testing, pulmonary function testing per protocol, and reports results to the provider.  Communicates information regarding testing, procedures and follow up care to patient in a clear, concise and professional manner.   (20%)*  Accurately completes and documents all patient information in the medical record according to current guidelines.(10%)*  Triages emergency patients, assessing condition and responding clinically as needed to stabilize the patient.  In conjunction with the provider, directs other staff in assisting in emergency situations. According to protocol, administers immediate treatment when indicated and notifies physician of patient status.(10%)*  Administers medications as prescribed by provider. Assists provider with patient examination, procedures and splinting. (10%)*  Prepares and cleans the patient area, sets up equipment, cleans and facilitates room set up after a procedure.  Disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes medical instruments.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Is able to assess and implement clinical protocols for patient care in an emergency situation.Provides a complete patient assessment, as indicated, within the scope of the practice.Based on the practice, may be required to:  demonstrate competency to assist with procedures such as, but not limited to venipuncture, Orthopedic Casting Lab (OCL) splinting, electrocardiogram (EKG), pulmonary function testing (PFT), audiometry, vision testing, dressing changes, respirator fit testing, drug and alcohol testing.Respirator fit testing requires the ability to learn and maintain knowledge of various mask types and proper mask fitting according to OSHA regulations.Completes daily tasks in a timely manner as outlined by the practice, such as referrals to specialists and/or primary care, EMR tasks, patient result notification, prior authorizations and communication to companies and/or workers compensation as appropriate.Places and receives calls to previously seen patients to evaluate patient progress, and to communicate results of lab and radiology testing.Complies with company protocols, organizational departmental policies and protocols, locals, state Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), and federal CLIA, Joint Commission Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) guidelines while conducting daily duties.Performs CLIA testing and maintains quality control logs.Performs equipment sterilization according to the defined policy & procedure for autoclaving.Participates as needed in continuous quality improvement projects and activities.  This includes, daily, weekly, monthly checks of equipment, supplies and medications.  In addition, staff may be asked to participate in organizational performance improvement projects.Maintains a clean, sterile and safe environment.  If applicable, may be required to travel to other urgent care clinics or companies to provide occupational health services.Maintains a high level of confidentiality and ensures patient's rights in accordance with proper procedures and in compliance with Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).Based on the practice needs, may be required to order medical, pharmacy and office supplies according to established guidelines.Communicates in a clear, effective and professional manner.  Is able to easily adapt to changing work environments and clientele.  Demonstrates excellent customer service.  Able to work all shifts including day, evening and weekends up to 13 hours per day. MyMichigan Health is a technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows.  Employees are required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.Certifications and LicensuresRN: Registered NurseEquivalent Experience: A minimum of one year of nursing experience.
