Mobile Backend Lead

Contract-To-Hire

Our national retail client is seeking a Mobile Backend Lead to play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing their Android mobile platforms. This position bridges mobile operations and merchandising, ensuring seamless deployments, optimal mobile functionality, and an exceptional customer experience. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to drive conversion, optimize site performance, and support strategic brand initiatives across the company's growing mobile ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute directly to mobile backend codebases, tackling non-trivial tasks such as foundational work, major feature development, refactoring, and implementing critical changes to shift-left processes.
  • Establish, document, and champion engineering standards and best practices for mobile backend development, ensuring maintainable, scalable, and consistent solutions.
  • Lead code reviews with an emphasis on quality, mentorship, and continuous improvement, providing actionable feedback to elevate both the codebase and the team.
  • Provide technical guidance to teammates on implementation approaches and problem-solving, helping them navigate complex tickets or requirements.
  • Collaborate with Solutions Architects and mobile team leads to translate requirements into actionable stories and spikes, and guide the backend team through GraphQL schema design and implementation changes.
  • Own and support production deployments, coordinating closely with the Cloud Infrastructure team when infrastructure changes are required.

Qualifications:

  • Expert-level proficiency in Java, Gradle, Spring Boot, and GraphQL API design and implementation, with a track record of building robust, scalable backend systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing experience layers is highly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Mentorship experience guiding engineers across all levels, conducting code reviews, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Comfortable working with Markdown for documentation and technical communication.
