Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Enrolled Agent to join our growing team on a part-time basis, with the opportunity to transition to full-time as our practice expands. This position offers hands-on experience in tax controversy work alongside experienced tax attorneys in a collaborative, professional environment. You will work on matters involving the IRS, New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, and other state tax authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with IRS and state tax audit representation and preparation of audit responses
- Support federal and state tax appeals processes, including protest letters and Appeals conference preparation
- Help clients navigate IRS and state collections matters, including installment agreements, offers in compromise, and payment plans
- Review and analyze federal and state tax returns, notices, and correspondence
- Prepare financial statements and supporting documentation for IRS and state tax authority submissions
- Conduct tax research on federal and multi-state tax issues
- Assist with case strategy development for multi-jurisdictional matters
- Maintain client files and ensure compliance with federal and state deadlines
- Communicate with IRS, NYS, and other state tax representatives on routine matters under attorney supervision
Required Qualifications:
- Active Enrolled Agent (EA) credential in good standing
- Strong knowledge of IRS procedures, federal tax law, and controversy processes
- Experience or willingness to learn New York State tax procedures
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple client matters across different jurisdictions and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with IRS and New York State tax audits, appeals, or collections
- Knowledge of NYS Department of Taxation and Finance procedures
- Familiarity with IRS and state tax transcripts and account analysis
- Experience working in a law firm or with attorneys
- Bilingual capabilities are a plus (Spanish)
What We Offer:
- Hourly rate of $25/hour
- Flexible part-time schedule hours/week, at least 15 hours a week must be worked during Monday - Friday)
