About the Role

OpenAI is looking for a
Senior/Staff Technical Product Designer
who thrives at the intersection of advanced technology and world-class user experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys tackling complex product challenges, can collaborate seamlessly with engineers, and knows how to transform cutting-edge technology into intuitive, human-centered design.

Whether B2B or B2C, our goal is the same: to create experiences that make AI approachable, trustworthy, and delightful to use. If you're someone who can brainstorm with engineers and PMs in the morning, then ship polished design flows by the afternoon, this role will let you have real impact at scale.

What You'll Do

  • Design for complex systems
    — craft user experiences that make powerful AI tools feel simple, intuitive, and engaging.
  • Collaborate deeply with engineers and PMs
    — work cross-functionally to translate technical constraints into elegant design solutions.
  • Apply consumer-grade quality to all products
    — bring creativity and usability from the B2C world into B2B tools (and vice versa).
  • Move quickly, iterate often
    — whiteboard, prototype, and deliver impactful design in days, not weeks.
  • Own the end-to-end design process
    — from concept and research to detailed interaction design and final execution.
  • Shape product direction
    — advocate for the user and influence product decisions through design insights.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of Product/UX design experience, with a strong portfolio that includes complex or technical product work.
  • Background in technical products (e.g., developer platforms, enterprise SaaS, AI/ML tools, or consumer apps with deep technical complexity).
  • Ability to collaborate fluently with engineers; a CS background or prior engineering experience is a plus.
  • Strong UX foundation paired with excellent interaction and visual design skills.
  • Experience in both B2B and/or B2C design; comfortable adapting consumer-grade usability to professional contexts.
  • Track record of moving quickly from ideation to execution, delivering impactful work without unnecessary cycles.
  • Passion for creating intuitive, human-centered AI products that solve meaningful problems.
