QVeil is an early-stage startup building software for quantum-safe encryption, specializing in QRNG (quantum random number generation) and PQC (post-quantum cryptography) to protect data and communications for government and enterprise applications. We're at the MVP stage, raising pre-seed funding to develop prototypes and secure initial clients.

As one of 3-4 co-founders, you'll hold a significant equity stake (20-30%, vested over 4 years with cliff) and lead the technical foundation.

Summary

The Cryptography Specialist will lead the development of QVeil's core quantum-resistant encryption technologies, ensuring secure key generation and no-transmission models for government and enterprise clients. Success looks like delivering prototype PQC implementations (e.g., Kyber/Dilithium hybrids) within 3-6 months, enabling early pilots, and contributing to funding raise through technical credibility. This role fits as the technical heart of QVeil, collaborating with the Dev Lead to build backend APIs/SDK while advising the CEO on product strategy, driving our B2B focus on quantum-safe keys.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms, including key encapsulation (e.g., ML-KEM/Kyber) and digital signatures (e.g., ML-DSA/Dilithium), to create quantum-safe keys compatible with NIST standards.
  • Develop no-transmission key derivation logic using shared entropy from QRNG sources, ensuring local computation on client endpoints to prevent interception risks.
  • Integrate QRNG APIs (e.g., ANU or Quantinuum) for high-entropy randomness, validating output per NIST SP 800-90B to meet government compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Dev Lead to prototype backend APIs and SDKs ), testing for security (e.g., hybrid classical/PQC for TLS) and scalability in QGov/Qep modes.
  • Conduct security audits and threat modeling (e.g., simulate Shor's algorithm attacks using Qiskit) to de-risk prototypes and support investor pitches.
  • Advise on certifications (e.g., FIPS and customizations for government contracts, contributing to product roadmaps and co-founder equity decisions.

Qualifications

  • Education: MS or PhD in cryptography, computer science, or quantum physics.
  • Experience: 3-5+ years in quantum-resistant cryptography or PQC development, preferably at startups (e.g., PQShield, QuSecure) or labs (e.g., NIST, IBM Quantum).
  • Skills: Proficiency in PQC libraries (e.g., liboqs-python); backend Python for API prototyping; knowledge of QRNG entropy validation and no-transmission models; familiarity with gov standards (e.g., CNSA 2.0, FIPS).
  • Certifications: Preferred: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or GIAC Critical Infrastructure Protection (GCIP).
  • Other: U.S. citizenship preferred for government clearances; strong communication for pitching technical concepts to non-experts.
