Technical Sales Engineer, Solar Repowering
Rural Solar Restoration is a full-service solar repair and restoration company specializing in the repowering of solar and energy storage assets. Founded on the belief that careful planning and skilled professionals can overcome any challenge in commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar installations, our mission is to extend the life and enhance the performance of existing solar projects—ensuring they continue to deliver clean, reliable energy for years to come.
We provide comprehensive technical assessments, engineering services, and turnkey solutions for the repowering of photovoltaic (PV) systems, inverters, racking, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). To support our continued growth, we are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to join our team of motivated and experienced professionals.
Position Overview:
This technical sales engineer will play a key role in evaluating the condition of solar assets and determining the most effective path for repowering. Unlike traditional sales roles, this position focuses on technical and financial evaluation rather than prospecting. Our sales engineer will serve as a trusted technical advisor to our clients—analyzing existing systems and designing customized repowering solutions to meet specific needs and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of solar and energy storage technologies, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate complex technical information into compelling business cases.
This position is a full time (40 hours/week), remote position that will require approximately 10-20% travel.
Job Tasks:The Technical Sales Engineer will be responsible for a range of activities focused on the technical and financial evaluation of solar repowering opportunities.
Technical Asset Assessment
· Conduct comprehensive on-site and remote assessments of existing solar PV and BESS installations
· Analyze historical performance data, system documentation and equipment specifications to identify degradation, faults and improvement opportunities
· Assess the condition of PV modules, inverters, racking and balance of system components to determine their remaining useful life and suitability for repowering
Solution Design and Engineering
· Develop customized repowering solutions that optimize performance, reliability and financial return
· Perform conceptual system design, including equipment selection, stringing configurations, and interconnection strategies
· Evaluate opportunities to integrate BESS with existing PV systems to enhance grid stability and generate new revenue streams
Financial and Performance Analysis
· Create detailed financial models to evaluate the economic viability of repowering projects, including calculations of Net Present Value (NPV), Internal rate of Return (IRR), Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), and payback period
· Generate accurate energy production models to forecast the performance of repowered systems
· Analyze the impact of incentives, tariffs, and financial mechanisms on project economics
Proposal Development and Presentation
· Prepare and present comprehensive repowering proposals to clients, clearly articulating the technical and financial benefits of the proposed solution
· Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to audiences ranging from engineers to financial stakeholders
· Collaborate with project management to ensure a seamless transition from the sales process to project execution
Our Technical Sales Engineer Is Expected To:
· Maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and customer service
· Demonstrate emotional intelligence and the ability to work effectively in diverse, collaborative teams
· Manage communications, documentation, and workflow efficiently using digital tools and platforms

In-depth technical knowledge of solar PV systems, including modules, inverters, racking, and balance-of-system components
