Job Purpose

The Seasonal SYEP Team Lead supervises, trains, and monitors seasonal staff who perform essential duties related to work experience programming, including the Summer Youth Employment Program. This role provides leadership and coordination to help ensure efficient, compassionate, and timely enrollment and engagement with participants and their families to ensure participants are properly enrolled in the Summer Youth Employment (SYEP) program – enrollment activities include completing Intake, attending Orientation, and submitting work permits and/or other paperwork as required. The Seasonal SYEP Team Lead also works with program leadership to ensure the smooth operation of SYEP, providing mediation, escalating issues as needed and ensuring program data is efficiently collected, updated, and maintained, and assisting with administrative tasks associated with SYEP. This multi-faceted role is highly visible in the organization and community and will create a lasting impression on youth and young adults in the program.

Essential Functions

  • Hire, train, supervise and monitor a seasonal team of staff who support the Summer Youth Employment Program, providing guidance and mentorship as needed.
  • Co-facilitate training activities for seasonal staff alongside other program leaders; assist in the planning and preparation for seasonal staff training.
  • Serve as the next level of contact when worksite issues cannot be resolved between team members, worksite supervisor, and youth participant or for issues that arise between participant/parent and Job Coach. Resolve issues in such a way that organizational priorities are met and where possible, all parties feel supported. Build and maintain working relationships with program youth and their families as well as Worksite Supervisors.
  • Assist the Intake team with all aspects of program enrollment including completion of application paperwork, work permit process, health exams, and employment forms as needed.
  • Provide leadership and coordination to Intake Sessions and Orientation Sessions to include coaching the seasonal employees, assigning tasks and duties, and overseeing the set-up, tear-down and overall flow of the sessions.
  • Ensure assigned Job Coaches are visiting worksites regularly. Ensure youth participants are being properly supervised, labor laws are being followed, and program quality is upheld at the worksite, including making personal visits to worksites.
  • Ensure administrative tasks and processes are completed timely and efficiently. Maintain accurate data records at all times.
  • Serve as back-up for Job Coaches to provide coverage if needed and perform Job Coaching duties as needed during fall and spring work experiences.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings as scheduled and required by Program Management.
  • Submit reports and paperwork in a timely fashion and as directed by Program Management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human Services, Non-profit Management, Business, Communications, Education) from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • An additional 2 years of work experience as detailed below can be substituted in lieu of a bachelor's degree along with an associate degree.
  • An additional 4 years of work experience as detailed below can be substituted in lieu of a bachelor's degree along with a High School Diploma.

Requirements

  • Must have experience working in a leadership, mentor, or coach role.
  • Must have experience in customer service and strong data entry skills.
  • Must have experience with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Must have experience working with diverse populations and/or at-risk youth and young adults.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to/from Y.O.U. offices, partner organizations, schools, etc.
  • Must pass an FBI/BCI criminal background check as a condition of employment.

Work Environment

  • This position is based primarily in an office setting. The position may also include regular travel to offsite locations for meetings, programs, events, or activities as part of assigned responsibilities.
  • The work pace for this position is usually fast paced where work is required for up to 2 hours at a time. This position requires such physical abilities as sitting for computer and phone work for long periods of time, lifting up to 25 lbs periodically and carrying office supplies, standing, and walking throughout the office buildings.
  • Social interaction with team members, vendors, partners, participants, and/or their family members frequently.
  • The environment in which the job is performed outside a normal office space may include exposure to extreme temperature, noise, or other hazards.

Assignment Length:

  • January to October
  • Variable Schedule, must be available for Saturdays
