Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with manual transmission across designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks, ensuring cargo integrity and security.
- Manage a variety of trailer types including refrigerated units for perishable goods, flatbeds for oversized items, tankers for liquids, and dump trucks for bulk materials.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to identify maintenance needs or safety issues.
- Plan efficient routes to optimize delivery times while complying with Hours of Service regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, freight deliveries, and vehicle inspections in accordance with federal and state requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding delivery schedules or any unforeseen delays.
- Ensure proper documentation for freight loads, including bills of lading and delivery receipts.
- Follow all safety protocols during load & unload operations to prevent accidents or damage.
- Perform route driving with a focus on safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction at every stop.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Experience operating tractor-trailers with manual transmissions preferred.
- Proven delivery driver experience with knowledge of freight handling procedures.
- Familiarity with different trailer types such as containers, dry van and flate bed is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of route planning and navigation tools.
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with dispatchers and customers.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting heavy loads and performing vehicle inspections regularly.
- Flexibility to travel long distances over multiple days; willingness to work varied schedules including nights and weekends if required.
