Baltimore, Maryland, United States Johns Hopkins Health System Full time $250,000 - $400,000 per year
The Opportunity

The Vice President, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) offers a unique opportunity to partner with clinical, operational, and technology leaders in shaping the future of AI and digital innovation at one of the nation's most respected academic healthcare institutions. The position offers a platform to shape the future of medical informatics and the ethical integration of AI at a world-class academic medical center that has been synonymous with innovation, research excellence, and ground-breaking patient care for over a century. The CMIO will have the privilege of guiding JHM through its next chapter of transformation, ensuring technology not only supports but also elevates the institution's mission of improving health and advancing discovery.

As a senior leader, the CMIO will collaborate with key leaders to develop the vision for how informatics and emerging technologies- including the latest advancements in agentic AI- can meaningfully transform care delivery, improve workflows, and drive research breakthroughs. The leader will partner with clinical, academic, and IT leaders across the School of Medicine and Health System to establish governance structures that balance innovation with high ethical standards, ensuring JHM remains at the forefront of healthcare advancements while never losing sight of its patient-centered values. A critical component of this work will be to drive optimization of clinical systems across JHM while seamlessly integrating new technologies and innovations to enhance the delivery of clinical care. Amid a rapidly accelerating pace of technological change and an ever-growing array of existing and emerging tools, this leader will play a critical role in prioritizing investments while expertly guiding change management efforts.

The opportunity calls for a leader with both clinical credibility and a deep understanding of technology and data, who can foster trust and collaboration across a complex, multi-site organization. The ideal candidate is a servant leader —authentic, inclusive, and grounded —who can listen with empathy while also articulating a compelling vision for the future. Success in this role depends not only on technical expertise but also on the ability to build relationships across faculty, clinicians, and administrators, gaining consensus and inspiring confidence in a culture that values humility, collegiality, and collective achievement over ego or hierarchy.

The CMIO will find themselves in an environment that invests in their leaders. This is an excellent opportunity to join a mission-driven organization where innovation and discovery are pursued for the sake of better care, where collaboration is the currency of progress, and where the CMIO can shape a lasting legacy of transformative change in healthcare.
