The HVAC Technician I is responsible for delivering high-quality HVAC services, including installation, repair, maintenance, and upgrades of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This role involves diagnosing and resolving equipment issues, identifying replacement needs, assisting other skilled trades, and ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are properly maintained and available on the job site.

Major Responsibilities and Functions
  • Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

  • Diagnose and repair electronic, mechanical, and electrical components of HVAC equipment.

  • Conduct regular building inspections to identify maintenance needs and coordinate corrective actions with management or contractors.

  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance.

  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Be available for flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, or emergency service calls on a rotating basis.

  • Maintain company vehicle in good working order, including regular fueling, reporting mechanical issues, and completing monthly inspection forms.

  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Maintain proper inventory of parts, tools, and safety equipment in the service vehicle.

  • Keep accurate service records, including Refrigerant Inventory and Usage Reports.

  • Document all installed equipment, including make, model, serial number, fuel type, test measurements, and photos as needed.

  • Diagnose service issues, identify necessary replacement parts, calibrate systems per manufacturer specifications, and communicate findings and solutions to management.

  • Participate in company-provided training on the latest HVAC technologies and best practices.

  • Identify and report potential business opportunities, such as system upgrades, service contracts, or additional services.

  • Remain flexible and willing to assist in other facility maintenance duties as needed to support departmental goals.

  • Overtime may be required without notice to complete assigned work; compensatory time off may be offered within the same pay period to meet operational or budgetary requirements.

  • Receive, complete, and document work orders accurately, maintaining precise records of materials and labor used.

Position Specifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Certificate or associate degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration from a trade or community college preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Valid driver's license required.

Experience:

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with a commitment to exceeding client expectations.

  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel tools and equipment, and reach with hands and arms.

  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required for installation and maintenance tasks.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Maintain specific vision abilities including close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
