Teacher Aide

Job Summary: The Rhodes School (TRS) is the only magnet Charter school in Houston, educating students through music and art. We are seeking a dependable Teacher Aide to support the Campus's Administration staff and Teachers in the classrooms with our students. This individual must be well-organized and assist with creating a calm learning environment for TRS students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.

Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.

2.

Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.

3.

Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interest, and abilities

4.

Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.

5.

Helps student master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher

6.

Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.

7.

Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.

8.

Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.

9.

Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.

10.

Performs any additional duties related to the ongoing effectiveness of the school, as directed by the supervisor.

Education: Must have a High School diploma or its equivalent and have completed two years of college credit from an accredited junior college or university (defined as 48 completion hours), an associate's degree, or be deemed highly qualified.

Must be able to obtain an Education Aide Certification through TEA within 1 year of employment.

Work Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-age students is preferred

Knowledge of computers, for word processing and other basic tasks.

Able to accept and learn new and improved education theories and techniques.

Able to interact effectively with co-workers, parents, volunteers ,and others in the classroom.

Able to work with others using a team model and to follow basic teamwork principles.

Equipment Used: Microsoft Office, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier). General Knowledge of accounting procedures, district policies and school law.

Working/Environmental Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.

FUNDING SOURCE:

• Fund 211 Title I, Part A – 100%

This position is contingent upon continued availability of grant funds and meeting program evaluation criteria.

Title I, Part A funded positions may perform no duties outside the intent of the Title I, Part A program.
