Position Summary:

The Memory Care Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, care coordination, and program development within the memory care neighborhood. This role ensures person-centered care for residents living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias while playing a key role in all aspects of operations.

The Memory Care Manager builds trusted relationships with prospective residents and families and acts as an ambassador for the community's memory care services. The manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management-including HR related tasks, and operational performance to include financial oversight and all day to day functions of the assisted living. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care, compliance with Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) regulations, effective staff management, and strong community engagement.

The schedule is expected to follow our standard leadership hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM; on call 24/7. These structured hours ensure consistent availability to staff, residents, and families and align with our operational needs. The manager is responsible for finding shift coverage and stepping in as needed when floor coverage is needed due to being short staffed.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Care Oversight
  • Manage daily operations of the memory care unit.
  • Lead, train, and support caregivers, med techs, and activity staff to deliver quality, compassionate care.
  • Maintain compliance with state regulations and internal policies.
  • Conduct resident assessments, create service plans, and oversee wellness checks and care reviews.
Staff Management
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate department heads and staff.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive workplace culture that promotes staff retention and satisfaction.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and compliance with required training.
Sales & Marketing
  • Partner with the Regional Sales team or internal marketer to meet occupancy goals.
  • Conduct memory care tours for prospective residents and families with empathy, confidence, and deep knowledge of dementia care (as assigned)
  • Assist with coordinating move-ins and collaborate with executive staff to ensure smooth transitions and appropriate care plans
  • Develop internal events to promote the community's memory care services.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of competitive memory care offerings and differentiate your program through storytelling, outcomes, and personalized care.
Family & Community Engagement
  • Serve as the main point of contact for families and build ongoing relationships of trust and communication.
  • Plan and facilitate regular family meetings and care conferences.
Resident Programming
  • Oversee the design and implementation of engaging, ability-appropriate programming that promotes cognitive, social, emotional, and physical wellness.
  • Ensure a structured daily routine that provides comfort and purpose for residents living with dementia.
  • Adapt programs based on resident interests, abilities, and life history.
Staff Development
  • Provide or coordinate dementia-specific training and continuing education to care staff.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews.
  • Create a culture of accountability, compassion, and teamwork.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure all memory care operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations (including Texas HHS standards for Type B assisted living if applicable).
  • Maintain accurate documentation on care, incidents, and resident records.
  • Regularly inspect the memory care environment for safety, cleanliness, and therapeutic design.

According to HHS Standards:

  • The manager of the certified Alzheimer's facility or the supervisor of the certified Alzheimer's unit must be 21 years of age, and have:
  • an associate's degree in nursing or health care management;
  • a bachelor's degree in psychology, gerontology, nursing, or a related field; or
  • proof of graduation from an accredited high school or certification of equivalency of graduation and at least one year of experience working with persons with dementia.
  • The manager or supervisor must complete six hours of annual continuing education regarding dementia care.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience working with individuals with dementia.
  • 1+ years in a supervisory, care coordination, or program management role.
  • Sales or customer service experience in a senior living or healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
