About the role

We're seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to own day-to-day accounting and deliver accurate, timely closes. You'll maintain the general ledger, perform reconciliations, support AP/AR, and prepare clean workpapers—partnering with Operations and an external CPA. This role reports to the CEO.

Key responsibilities

  • General ledger & JEs: Prepare/post journal entries; maintain accruals, prepaids, and fixed assets; keep the GL clean and audit-ready.
  • Reconciliations: Complete monthly bank, merchant processor, cash, inventory/COGS, intercompany, and payroll liability reconciliations with clear support.
  • AP/AR support: Process invoices (three-way match where applicable), maintain vendor files/W-9s/1099 support; record sales and reconcile POS → merchant → bank → GL; monitor AR aging and assist collections.
  • Cash & POS tie-outs (retail/distribution): Perform daily/weekly cash and deposit reconciliations; resolve variances with store/ops teams; document armored-car/safe activity where applicable.
  • Month-end close: Help drive a 5-business-day close—prepare schedules, variance analyses vs. budget/prior, and a concise flux commentary for management.
  • Inventory/COGS: Reconcile inventory subledgers and cycle counts; validate landed costs/shrink; partner with Ops to resolve discrepancies.
  • Compliance & tax support: Maintain documentation to support 280E allocations; prepare sales/excise tax workpapers; assemble PBC items for outside CPA (returns, year-end review/audit).
  • Internal controls & SOPs: Follow and help refine practical controls (segregation of duties, approval workflows, cash handling, master-data hygiene); keep SOPs current.
  • Systems & process improvement: Assist with integrations between POS/inventory, bill pay, payroll, and the ERP; suggest simple automations to reduce manual work.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years full-cycle accounting experience (multi-entity preferred). Experience in cannabis or other highly regulated, inventory-heavy environments is a plus.
  • Solid GAAP fundamentals; working knowledge of inventory/COGS; familiarity with 280E a plus (willing to learn).
  • Systems: QuickBooks Online or NetSuite, Excel (pivots, lookups), and comfort with POS/inventory platforms, bill pay and payroll.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven; strong communicator who collaborates well with Operations and external accountants.
  • CPA or progress a plus, not required.
