Now Brewing – Data Scientist #tobeapartner
From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.
As a Decision Scientist on the Data & Analytics (D&A) team, you will execute complex analyses – mostly focused on hypothesis testing and measurement – and translate them into actionable insights that enable leaders to make informed, data-driven decisions. You will develop recommendations, frameworks, and reports that directly influence strategic business choices and drive measurable impact.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners—including Finance, Store Development, Retail Testing, Supply Chain, Marketing, Product, and Customer teams—to support high-priority initiatives and shape key decisions across the organization. Additionally, you will contribute to the design, enhancement, and maintenance of analytical models and optimization algorithms, ensuring they remain robust, scalable, and aligned with evolving business needs.
As a decision scientist, you will…
- Conduct Exploratory Data Analysis - Analyze large-scale datasets through data wrangling, feature engineering, and statistical exploration. Build reusable data pipelines using tools such as Pandas, Databricks SQL, and Spark to uncover trends, prepare raw data for modeling, and generate actionable insights.
- Execute Analyses and Influence Strategic Decisions – Deliver complex analyses and translate results into actionable insights through clear reporting and data storytelling, providing recommendations that guide long-term business strategies.
- Drive Data Storytelling and Visualization – Design intuitive dashboards and visualizations that simplify complex data, enabling leaders to quickly understand insights and make informed decisions.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally - Partner with teams across data engineering, operations, product, supply chain, and more to translate business needs into scalable data science solutions.
- Contribute to Development and Maintenance of Analytical Models – work with the analytical team to design, enhance, and sustain statistical/analytical models tailored to specific domains such as store testing and experimentation, store development, supply chain, and marketing.
- Contribute to Predictive and Descriptive Models – Leverage historical data, domain attributes, and external signals to support the development of models that address diverse business challenges and enhance decision-making.
- Demonstrate Curiosity and a Growth Mindset - Tackle complex problems with intellectual curiosity, continuously explore new features and methodologies, and stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
- Thrive in a Collaborative, Impact-Driven Team - Join a high-performing, supportive team that values innovation, continuous learning, and delivering meaningful business outcomes.
We'd love to Hear From People With
- Bachelors+ with concentration in quantitative discipline – Stats, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering, or similar discipline. Masters preferred. Minimum of 1 year of experience
- Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to communicate insights effectively to technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficiency in coding languages for data preparation and modeling, including SQL for querying large datasets and Python for building pipelines and statistical models
- Solid understanding of statistical concepts, and techniques, such as regression, classification, decision trees, clustering, and causal inference, with practical experience applying them to real-world problems
- Demonstrated curiosity and analytical rigor, with a strong ability to explore complex datasets, identify patterns, and generate actionable insights
- Excellent attention to detail, along with strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate across cross-functional teams and present findings to stakeholders
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with PySpark and Databricks for distributed data processing and scalable analytics in cloud environments
