Applico Capital is bringing the tech-enabled private equity thesis to a large, multi-billion-dollar B2B distributor and building an all-star technical team to execute on an unprecedented opportunity. Every member of this team will be expected to use AI directly in their own work, automate workflows, and drive a data-driven, CI/CD, and automation-heavy culture that delivers measurable business outcomes.

About the Role:

We are seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy machine learning solutions that have a tangible impact across our business. You will work hands-on to turn prototypes into production systems, integrating models into our products and workflows to improve everything from search to merchandising to pricing optimization.

This is a scrappy, hands-on role in a startup-style team within a stable enterprise. The ability to move fast, automate, and deliver measurable value is essential.  Equally important is your ability to partner with scientists, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure solutions are trusted.  You will also be expected to leverage AI-augmented engineering practices, using LLMs and copilots to accelerate development, and to design with agentic architectures in mind, enabling autonomous and semi-autonomous systems that improve business workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain end-to-end ML pipelines (training, testing, deployment, and monitoring)
  • Partner with AI Scientists to translate research and prototypes into scalable solutions
  • Develop APIs and services to embed AI into business applications
  • Implement automation and testing for model reliability and reproducibility
  • Collaborate with Data and MLOps teams to ensure performance, cost, and observability
  • Apply AI-augmented development tools (code copilots, automated testing agents) to accelerate engineering
  • Explore and implement agentic frameworks (multi-agent orchestration, tool-using LLMs) for production systems
Requirements
  • 5+ years in software engineering or data engineering, with applied ML Experience
  • Proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX)
  • Strong experience with cloud-native ML platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and data systems.
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices (CI/CD for ML, feature stores, monitoring)
  • Ability to deliver production-grade ML systems and measurable business impact
  • Hands-on experience using AI copilots or agent frameworks and orchestration layers (LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, N8N, etc.) preferred
