Summary

The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board's Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board's internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes.

Position Requirements

About the Team & Role

The Application Design and Development (ADD) section in the division of Research and Statistics (R&S) is an enthusiastic team of UX designers and software engineers that design, develop and support solutions that enable the economic research, analysis, and policy work of the Federal Reserve Board.

The team is looking for an intern to work with our group of SharePoint Developers, UX Designers, and Product Managers to help develop simple and complex applications that support collaborative document management and communications practices. You will work on a cross-functional team and have an opportunity to learn the agile methodology, as well as best practices for developing on low-code/no-code platforms like SharePoint Online. You will also interact with stakeholders to gather business needs and translate those needs into application requirements.

About You (Background/Qualifications/Skills)

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Information Science/Technology, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Software Development, Computer Systems, Data Science/Analytics, or a related field, graduating Aug '26 or later.

  • Proficiency with HTML/CSS, JavaScript and/or React JS required.

  • Experience building SharePoint sites and/or simple workflow applications highly desired.

  • Exposure to Azure, PowerApps, PowerAutomate, Web Services, Graph API and REST API are highly desired.

  • Exposure to user experience design principles and research a plus.

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are vital.

  • Must be able to work in a team and be open to coaching and feedback from more senior team members

  • Good communication skills; both oral and written are needed so you can connect with stakeholders at all levels in the organization and understand the problems that need to be solved.

  • A basic understanding of the agile methodology is helpful; you are aware of some of the agile ceremonies, but you may not have had an opportunity to practice them yet.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Applicant must be a current student, graduating from their program August 2026 or later. Proof of enrollment will be required.
  • Available for 40-hrs/week, for 10-12 weeks during summer 2026, with daily on-site presence at our offices in Downtown Washington, D.C.
