Job Summary:

The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) will provide basic behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth in a correctional setting. Working under the direction of Registered Nurses and Physicians, the LPT ensures the delivery of effective mental health services in compliance with institutional standards and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 36 continuous months of recent experience in a public or private institution (within the last 5 years).
  • Internships not accepted.
  • Active and valid California license from the Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians.
  • Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide psychiatric nursing care and behavioural support to patients/youth.
  • Perform daily rounds and monitor individuals with mental illness symptoms.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including injections.
  • Record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
  • Support the development of treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead or assist in individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Coordinate clinical appointments and ensure patient attendance.
  • Act as liaison with custody staff to manage behavioural issues.
  • Respond to emergencies with CPR and first aid support.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation per facility requirements.
  • Contribute to a safe and therapeutic environment.
