Texas Oncology is looking for a Senior Coverage Pharmacy Technician Trainer to join our team This position will support our Gulf Coast Region - Houston, Texas and the surrounding areas. This position also has the potential to travel across to all TxO Clinic Locations.

What does the Senior Pharmacy Technician Trainer do? (including but not limited to)

Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist working within a licensed pharmacy, performs the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation. With minimal supervision, responsible for record keeping and inventory control. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Specific state law may regulate that only licensed individuals perform compounding or mixing responsibilities. As a result, certain incumbents are prohibited from said tasks.

Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to) :

  • Delivers training to pharmacy technician and pharmacist new hires.
  • Tracks training assignments and attendance and provides reports to management.
  • Routinely checks in with new pharmacy technicians to ensure training goals and progress are being met.
  • Partners with other pharmacy technician trainers, mentors, preceptors, and managers/supervisors to ensure consistency of training and onboarding.
  • Customizes training programs based on schedule and availability of employees. (i.e. virtual, one-on-one, on the job training).
  • Assists with maintaining and updating all training materials as processes, policies or procedures are changed.
  • Conducts observations and evaluations and prescribes best training approach based on results and needs of the company
  • Identifies training issues and opportunities for enhancement and development.
  • Encourage pharmacy technician advancement, development, and certification.
  • Maintain annual competencies set forth by company policy through supervisory visit conducted by corporate clinical team member.
  • Obtain appropriate state registrations or licenses as needed.
  • Participates in the coverage pool as scheduled and manager approval allows

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate position will have the following background and experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.
  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience.
  • Previously demonstrated ability to mentor and train technicians
  • Completion of an ASCP accredited program or community college-based program recommended.
