Systems Engineer III

The Systems Engineer III provides senior-level technical leadership and subject-matter expertise to the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) – Facilities Services Directorate (FSD). The Systems Engineer serves as an expert in one or more technical disciplines, guiding the development, integration, and application of advanced system solutions. This position independently performs complex research, design evaluation, technical development, and system integration planning activities, providing expert insights and recommendations to support FSD's mission-critical objectives. The Systems Engineer ensures all technical efforts align with DoD policies, performance standards, and organizational goals.
Essential Functions
- Serve as a technical subject-matter expert (SME), providing advanced guidance and recommendations across multiple system disciplines.
- Lead complex system design, engineering, and integration initiatives requiring extensive technical knowledge and judgment.
- Conduct and oversee research, design evaluations, and technical assessments to inform strategic decision-making.
- Guide the development, configuration, and implementation of advanced system solutions to meet operational requirements.
- Perform comprehensive system integration planning and ensure seamless interoperability between technical systems and components.
- Analyze performance data to identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and recommend technical improvements.
- Oversee and validate system documentation, including specifications, design artifacts, integration plans, and testing procedures.
- Conduct feasibility studies, trade-off analyses, and technical reviews to support long-term system planning and modernization efforts.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and leadership to ensure project objectives are achieved on time and within scope.
- Provide mentorship, technical direction, and quality review for junior analysts and engineering staff.
- Develop and present detailed technical briefings, reports, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Ensure all activities comply with WHS, DoD, and federal standards for security, quality, and performance.
- Perform other technical and analytical duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in systems analysis, systems integration, or systems engineering.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more technical domains, such as system architecture, data management, network integration, or software development.
- Extensive experience leading complex system design, research, and integration efforts within the Department of Defense (DoD) or other federal agencies.
- Advanced understanding of systems engineering principles, system development life cycle (SDLC), and technical project management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop innovative technical solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to present complex technical material to senior leaders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and relevant technical tools.
Citizenship and Security Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- An Active Secret Security Clearance is required.
