Applied AI Engineer (On site, Arlington, VA)

The Role

As an Applied AI Engineer, you will design, build, and ship AI capabilities end to end, from model prototyping to production deployment. You will work across neural networks, NLP, and pattern recognition, partnering closely with domain experts to turn messy, real world signals into clear, actionable insight.

What you will do


• Architect and implement models for NLP, pattern recognition, and time series and anomaly detection


• Build production grade software around models: APIs, data pipelines, evaluation harnesses, and monitoring


• Run rigorous experiments, define metrics, and iterate quickly based on findings


• Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and product to translate mission needs into technical plans


• Document thoughtfully and contribute reusable components and best practices

What you will bring


• Strong CS and software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, testing)


• Hands on experience with neural networks and NLP (tokenization, embeddings, sequence models, or LLMs)


• Proficiency in data analysis and model evaluation (statistical testing, error analysis)


• Fluency in at least one modern ML stack (for example Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow)


• Excellent problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills


• Bachelor's or Master's in CS, AI, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to have


• Experience in the military, intelligence community, or other high consequence technical environments


• Exposure to information retrieval, multi agent systems, or decision support tools


• Practical MLOps experience (packaging, CI/CD, observability, GPU or accelerator workflows)


• Security minded development in constrained or air gapped environments
