The Role
We're looking for an Accounting Manager to lead our Compliance (bookkeeping & payroll) team. You'll oversee Staff Accountants, ensure accuracy and timeliness of client deliverables, and be the bridge between daily client work and executive leadership.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll coach staff, enforce quality standards, and refine workflows — while also helping EO prepare for growth as we scale from a boutique firm to a multi-million dollar business.
What You'll Do
- Lead the Team & Drive Performance: Supervise Staff Accountants; run weekly check-ins; provide coaching for ongoing professional growth; and conduct performance management using data and feedback loops to ensure staff accountability and goal achievement.
- Own Quality & Accountability: Review and approve reconciliations, reports, and payroll; enforce QC checklists and hold staff accountable for accuracy; and model clear ownership to promote a culture of high standards and balance within the remote team.
- Manage Workflows & Systems: Oversee Asana task assignments, balance workloads, and address bottlenecks; identify and resolve process gaps by continuously refining workflows for long-term growth and scaling initiatives.
- Support Clients & Resolve Friction: Act as the primary escalation point for client concerns, ensuring issues are resolved smoothly and professionally to maintain high satisfaction and retention.
- Collaborate with Leadership & Manage Profitability: Report on KPIs, staff performance, and client margins; actively monitor and adjust retainers to maintain profitability; and partner with the CEO on process improvements and scaling initiatives.

- Team deliverables are 98%+ accurate and 95%+ on time.
- Retainers stay profitable and well-scoped.
- Staff Accountants are engaged, growing, and retained.
- Clients feel supported, with escalations resolved smoothly.
- The CEO has clear visibility into department performance.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. CPA or other advanced credential is a plus but not required.
- 5+ years progressive accounting experience, including team leadership.
- Strong skills in bookkeeping, payroll, reconciliations, and compliance.
- Deep understanding of financial statements and the ability to analyze and interpret results to ensure accuracy and meaningful insights.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Gusto/QBO Payroll, Asana, and Google Workspace.
- Experience managing a remote team and building strong culture at a distance.
- Confidence handling tough conversations with tact, empathy, and professionalism.
