JOB SUMMARY:

This is a field-based construction position responsible for assisting the agency Construction Staff in the successful completion of all agency construction activities including the construction of homes. This job requires working with the construction staff to ensure the construction site is orderly, safe, organized, and represents Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville (HFHGN) in a positive manner at all times. This is a field-based, Hands-on position assisting the team in ensuring that all construction projects are completed according to the schedule. This is an in-person position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA:

  • Work with all members of construction teams to complete a broad range of construction tasks to keep the build schedules on track
  • Ability to perform tasks related to framing/trim carpentry, drywall patching and painting, light electrical/plumbing hardware installation, light roofing, siding, insulation, bath/door hardware installation and other general construction tasks
  • Have knowledge of permit processes multiple counties
  • Assist in job site cleanliness and quality control at all times
  • Ability to drive forklifts, skid steers
  • Assist with all sub-contractors, where and when needed
  • Assist in construction work according to priorities and plans.
  • Review plans, specifications, and construction sheets in order to be familiar with the steps to be taken to construct homes with good quality, at the lowest cost and shortest time possible.
  • Perform construction tasks
  • Coordinate activities with the Construction Site Supervisor, Project manager & Construction Site Senior Manager, daily to determine which tasks need performed.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner in accordance with the build schedule
  • Has Fiduciary duty towards Cost, Time, Quality, Team Engagement and performance, and Volunteer Experience of delivering homes to homeowners.
  • Ability to use power & hand tools safely and effectively
  • Able to perform other construction duties as needed

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

A good working knowledge of residential construction trades, tools and methods including but not limited to carpentry, concrete, drywall, masonry, siding, roofing, flooring, trim, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and appropriate energy efficient trade practices

Knowledge of land development including the following but not limited to:

  • slab and foundation installation
  • locating and layout of all foundations, sidewalks, patios, underground utilities
  • proof-rolls and pad certifications
  • rough and finish grading, and other landscaping as required.
  • erosion control aspect of the project with the site contractor.
  • Maintain the streets free of debris and mud.
  • Have working knowledge of underground water, sewer, and electric/cable connections & services.

Strong scheduling, organizational, and reporting skills.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Must have a clean driving record for insurance purposes

Ability to operate a motor vehicle and construction equipment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Construction experience is required, 2+ yrs

  • Must have the ability to lead volunteers to construct house components i.e. wall panels, fly rafters, porch beams etc.

  • Good work and business ethics.

  • Must be a proven self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment. Individual must be organized and capable of good task follow-up.

  • Must have a solid understanding of building codes and inspections and be capable of maintaining a positive relationship with building inspectors and local officials.

  • High school degree required

  • Previous construction experience required

  • Must have the ability and desire to work respectfully with people of all cultures, languages, national origins, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, classes, immigration statuses, sexual orientations, gender identity and expressions, ages, mental or physical abilities, and other diversity factors. Must conduct all activities in accordance with Habitat principles.

TIME REQUIREMENTS:

  • 40 hours per week. Seasonal over-time expected. Must be available to work Saturdays and Sundays during the Build Season. Satisfactory attendance is required.
