Boston, Massachusetts, United States DigitalOcean Full time $140,000 - $177,000 per year

Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean. Journey alongside a strong community of top talent who are relentless in their drive to build the simplest scalable cloud. If you have a growth mindset, naturally like to think big and bold, and are energized by the fast-paced environment of a true industry disruptor, you'll find your place here. We value winning together—while learning, having fun, and making a profound difference for the dreamers and builders in the world.

We are looking for a Senior User Researcher who is passionate about deeply understanding our customers' needs, context, and motivations. You will accelerate innovation and drive value by bringing these insights to everything we do at DigitalOcean.

As a Senior User Researcher at DigitalOcean, you'll join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. Reporting to the Manager of User Research, you will act as a critical link between our users and our business. You'll work with product and design teams to guide the future of our business by generating actionable insights that ensure our products and services meet the everyday needs of our users.

You'll lead research for critical customer journeys and products, serving as a strong advocate for applied research and a user-centered mindset across the organization. In addition to leading tactical and strategic studies, you will lead the charge on our continuous research programs that elevate overall "customer intelligence" across the organization. Working with your fellow researchers and strategy leaders, you'll also help shape the team's culture, ways of working, and approach to ResearchOps.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead Targeted Research from End-to-End: Drive end-to-end strategic and tactical research initiatives that both inform and align with high-level business goals and product roadmaps. Manage the full research lifecycle, from planning and recruiting to analysis, synthesis, and final reporting.
  • Generate Actionable Insights from Disparate Data Sources: Develop and optimize continuous research mechanisms to aggregate and integrate disparate data sources into a cohesive and actionable narrative. Translate complex data into clear insights that drive product decisions and champion the voice of the customer.
  • Influence, Advocate, and Mentor: Build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships with product, design, and technical leaders to embed the user perspective. Mentor researchers and coach extended teams to elevate the quality of practice and increase the organization's user-centricity.
  • Contribute to Our Research Practice: Help advance our research practice by contributing to, refining, and codifying research methods, guidelines, and documentation. Evaluate and integrate new tooling and help manage the centralized research repository to increase the accessibility and impact of all insights.
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:
  • 5-8 years' experience planning, conducting, and communicating the findings from user research for digital products and services, ideally with a focus on technical users
  • BS or MS in Interaction Design, HCI, Cognitive Science, Psychology, or equivalent experience
  • An excellent ability to understand and articulate user needs, as well as to generate and communicate compelling & actionable insights
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale research initiatives and influencing cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, with an ability to select and combine approaches to deliver actionable insights; additionally, experience in market research is a plus
  • Proven ability to apply quantitative methods — statistical modeling, behavioural data analysis, experimental design.
  • Strong understanding of large-scale data pipelines and how to work with data engineering teams.
  • Proficient skills in SQL, data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.), and statistical software (R, Python, SPSS, etc.).
  • An expert understanding of the digital product lifecycle and the ability to collaborate successfully with designers, technical & business teams
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence leaders as well as peers
  • Previous experience within the Cloud computing industry is preferred.
Compensation Range:
  • $140,000 - $177,000
