Avionics Systems Engineer

CyberStorm Defense is seeking an experienced Avionics Systems Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in modernizing and sustaining the National Airspace System (NAS).
This role supports the Air Traffic Systems Directorate (AJM-2) and Enterprise Services Directorate (AJM-3), focusing on avionics system integration, certification, and interoperability across NAS and aircraft systems in alignment with NextGen objectives.
The engineer will apply advanced avionics and systems-engineering principles to ensure compliance with FAA and industry standards (DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754A) while improving system performance, safety, and reliability across flight and ground systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide systems-engineering and integration support for avionics systems deployed across the NAS and commercial/GA aircraft interfaces.
- Develop and manage system requirements, architecture designs, and verification strategies in accordance with FAA AMS and SEI guidance.
- Perform hardware/software certification support per DO-178C (software) and DO-254 (hardware) standards.
- Conduct interface control, data-link integration, and interoperability testing for CNS/ATM and surveillance systems.
- Support development and validation of avionics system specifications, test procedures, and configuration documentation.
- Collaborate with FAA PMO, TechOps, and flight operations stakeholders to ensure system readiness and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate avionics upgrades, technology insertion opportunities, and impacts on NAS automation systems (ERAM, STARS, TFDM, TBFM).
- Prepare engineering analyses, risk assessments, and compliance reports for FAA approval.
- Ensure conformance with FAA AMS, RTCA, ICAO, and EUROCAE standards relevant to avionics certification and interoperability.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- 8 + years of avionics or aerospace systems-engineering experience supporting FAA, DOT, NASA, or DoD programs.
- Proven knowledge of avionics integration and certification per DO-178C and DO-254.
- Experience with flight-deck systems, CNS/ATM, navigation, surveillance, or data-link technologies.
- Familiarity with FAA AMS lifecycle, SEI processes, and configuration management practices.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior support to FAA AJM-2 / AJM-3, Aviation Safety (AVS), or NextGen Offices.
- Experience with Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) or Fly-By-Wire systems.
- Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Safety Risk Management (SRM).
- Certifications: INCOSE CSEP, FAA DER, or PMP.
- Active Public Trust, Secret, or higher clearance preferred.
