Freshly backed by some of the top VCs in Silicon Valley, T-robotics is redefining robotics by combining advanced AI for intuitive programming with pre-trained skill models that are experts at industrial tasks. With offices in San Francisco (USA) and Trondheim (Norway), we provide software that gives our users unprecedented ease-of-use and capabilities for their robots, allowing them to think, adapt, and perform complex tasks like any skilled worker.
About the jobWe are looking for a Principal Software Architect to serve as the technical visionary and team lead for our software engineering teams. You will be the architectural backbone of ActGPT, designing the holistic software system that orchestrates everything from our advanced AI agents to the physical execution of tasks on the factory floor.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines high-level system design with mentorship and guidance. You will execute on the company's technical roadmap, while leading talented engineers responsible for building our entire software stack. If you are a systems-level thinker who excels at solving complex problems and loves to build and mentor world-class teams, this role is for you.
Responsibilities- Architectural Leadership: Lead the design and evolution of the software architecture for the entire ActGPT platform, encompassing agentic systems, the robotic control layer, and user-facing interfaces.
- Team Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor and lead a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and ownership.
- Technical Strategy: Establish and champion best practices for software development, including coding standards, design patterns, robust testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
- System Design: Design and oversee the implementation of core system components, including hardware interfaces, motion planning solutions, and advanced simulation frameworks.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with tech, product, and operations teams to translate product requirements into a cohesive technical vision and roadmap.
- Hands-on Contribution: Remain hands-on by tackling the most complex technical challenges and contributing to critical parts of the codebase to guide the team by example.
- 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of architecting and deploying complex, possibly-distributed systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring software engineering teams.
- Deep, hands-on understanding of modern software architecture for complex applications (with experience with C++ and Python being highly valuable).
- Strong architectural background in designing scalable systems (with domain experience in robotics, industrial automation, or simulation being highly valuable).
- Excellent systems-level thinking and the ability to manage the full development lifecycle, from concept to deployment on edge devices.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different time zones and cultures.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with a clear ability to prioritize tasks.
- A proactive, self-starting mentality with a strong sense of ownership and a knack for creative problem-solving.
- Experience working in a fast-scaling, international startup environment.
- Exceptional ability to articulate and document complex architectural decisions, trade-offs, and their business implications to diverse stakeholders.
- Extensive experience designing and scaling message-based or pub-sub communication systems (e.g., DDS).
- A strong sense of product ownership and experience taking complex software systems from prototype to a polished, commercially successful product.
- Experience integrating machine learning or AI models into production systems.
- A background in designing software for safety-critical or high-reliability systems.
- A key leadership role with the authority to define the technical vision for a category-defining automation platform.
- The opportunity to build and lead a world-class engineering team working at the intersection of AI and robotics.
- A clear path for professional growth and the potential to define your own role as the company scales.
- Competitive salary, employee equity, and benefits.
- A dynamic and international work environment with offices in the US and Norway.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor new employment visas.
