Kitchen Assistant– Childcare Center

Job Type: Part-Time (20 hours/week) Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Pay: $ $24.00 DOE

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Assistant to join our childcare center team. Under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager and director. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for supporting the planning, preparing, and distributing nutritionally appropriate meals and snacks for children, while ensuring a safe and sanitary kitchen environment in accordance with CACFP and WA State guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meal Preparation & Distribution: Assist with prepping and serving of breakfast, lunch, and snacks that meet CACFP nutritional guidelines.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records including meal counts, orders, deliveries, and inventory logs.
  • Cleaning & Maintenance:Maintain cleanliness for the kitchen, storeroom, and all equipment.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all WA State Food Worker Manual guidelines. Meet all health department and licensing requirements.
  • Team Collaboration: Foster positive working relationships with staff and support a cooperative environment.
  • Professional Conduct: Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and participate in monthly staff meetings.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to undergo a background check
  • Obtain required training certificates:
  • 30-hour Child Care Basics
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP)
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English
  • Ability to perform simple math
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Physically able to assist in classroom emergencies, including evacuations
  • Capable of performing janitorial duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in food preparation and service
  • Experience cooking for a school, preschool, or adult care facility
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Training in food safety, nutrition, and sanitation
  • Valid WA State Food Handler's Permit
  • Spanish Speaking

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma
