ORTHOPEDIC TECH POSITION - BAYLOR SCOTT & WHITE DALLAS, TEXAS

• Facility/Location: Baylor Orthopedic Clinic Junius St, Ste 500, Dallas, 75246
• Shift/Schedule: FT - Monday – Friday. 7:30am – 5:00pm. (this may vary depending on provider schedule)
• Experience with the following procedures a must,
• Casting/Splinting application and removal skills and knowledge.
• Suture and Staple removal skills and knowledge.
• Equipment operation and maintenance skills.
• Certified Ortho Tech certificate a plus.

JOB SUMMARY

The Orthopedic Technician 2 performs, or provides assistance to physicians, surgeons and other health providers, setting stabilization devices and utilizing other technology that relates to the care of the bones. Serves as a lead for other orthopedic techs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Assists physician in carrying out procedures which require aseptic techniques observing standard precautions. Prepares patient and equipment for examination or procedure to facilitate physician efficiency. Operates and maintains equipment safely and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Safely transports cart to different areas of facility, as needed.

Applies and removes casts, splints and orthopedic appliances for the patient to ensure the appropriate level of comfort and fit, to include specialty casts such as Hip Spica and Muenster type casts . Accurately fits the patient with the size and type of brace and splint needed to produce optimal patient outcomes. Observes patient, recognizes changes in condition and promptly seeks appropriate assistance.

Communicates effectively with the patient regarding the process and maintenance of the procedure to be done to provide reassurance and education. Clearly explains the procedure to each patient before starting so that the patient will feel comfortable with the process.

Demonstrates proper application of a brace and splint.

Serves as trainer for new employees

Teaches patient appropriate exercises for specific injuries in order to facilitate the healing process. Demonstrates proper performance of exercises following either ACL or Rotator Cuff surgery. Demonstrates ankle or extremity range for motion after removal of cast.

Maintains a clean and serviceable work environment to enhance patient care. Orders and maintains an adequate inventory of equipment and supplies for assigned areas.

Takes personal responsibility to participate in performance improvement activities and initiatives. Leads in service education for other technicians.

Removes stitches, staples, and provide debridement for wounds if required.

Additional duties as assigned, may include post surgical casting at our various hospital locations.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Corrected vision and hearing to normal range required.

Bachelors degree preferred.

Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences. Empathetic listener, sensitive, upbeat, optimistic, articulate, gracious and tactful. Ability to calm upset patients in a composed and professional demeanor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

• EXPERIENCE - 3 Years of Experience

• CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

Orthopedic Technologist Cert (OTC): Must be certified as an Orthopedic Technologist through one of the following:

- Cert Orthopaedic Tech (OTC) from National Board of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT)

- Reg Orthopedic Tech (ROT) from American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP).
