Outdoor Education Assistant Teacher - Wind Rose Montessori Part-Time Position | 8:30am - 12:00pm
About the Role
Wind Rose Montessori is seeking a nature-loving assistant teacher to join our outdoor education program. This position is perfect for someone who believes the natural world is a child's greatest classroom and wants to spend their days outdoors with young learners.
Our class currently has a lead teacher and one assistant teacher. We're looking to add a third teacher who is passionate about outdoor exploration and education.
A Day in Your Life
You'll work with children ages 2.5-6 years, guiding them through hands-on nature experiences. One day might include hiking through Discovery Park to learn bird calls, feast on blackberries, or go on a puddle jumping expedition. Another day could mean hunting for mushrooms, observing beavers at work, or walking to the Ballard Locks to study herons and the salmon life cycle.
From seasonal changes to local flora and fauna, you'll help cultivate each child's sense of wonder while deepening your own knowledge of the outdoors. You'll be surprised how much you'll learn in this role—Seattle is the perfect place for nature-based education.

- Support the lead teacher in maintaining safe outdoor exploration
- Guide children through nature walks, gardening activities, and outdoor investigations
- Foster children's connection to the natural world through observation and inquiry

- Patient, warm, and attuned to young children's needs
- Enthusiastic about flora, fauna, and the natural world
- Comfortable with hands-on, messy outdoor education
- Aligned with Montessori principles of child-led learning
- Energetic, adaptable, and ready for nature's surprises
Qualifications
- Experience working with young children
- Outdoor flora and fauna knowledge, or eagerness to learn
- First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain
- Comfortable being physically active outdoors in various weather
