A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A ROADWAY ENGINEER

As a Roadway Engineer, you are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You prepare engineering designs, studies, and reports to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure. To verify compliance with the criteria for each project, you review and determine the appropriate application of technical methods used. You are involved in the development of engineering design details, specifications, contract drawings, and estimates. You enjoy getting away from your desk to participate in presentations as well as perform fieldwork for inspections and research. Sharing your knowledge, you assist in training and mentoring new employees. You monitor current roadway design trends and methodologies to ensure that our projects are of the highest quality. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A ROADWAY ENGINEER

Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineeringProfessional engineer registration5+ years of highway design experience

Experience using MicroStation computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to develop plans, profiles, typical sections, cross sections, and quantity take-offs for construction phase estimates on highway design projects for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) or other Virginia localities would be a plus. Experience developing 3D engineered models in Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD) is desired, but many factors will be considered.

WORK SCHEDULE

This full-time civil engineering position typically works Monday - Friday, 9 am - 3 pm. Outside of those core hours, the schedule is flexible
