The Department of Medicine: Rheumatology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Technologist 1 to join their team.
The Research Technologist 1 will perform laboratory and investigative work in support of Dr. Tomas Mustelin's program of research in rheumatology. This person will perform technical lab procedures including cell culturing, immunofluorescence microscopy, biological assays, and other necessary experiments on patient samples.
This is a fully in person position at the South Lake Union campus of the University of Washington.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform Investigative work (65%)
- Perform primary cell isolation from patient samples.
- Operate instruments and equipment such as fluorescence microscope, PCR machines, plate readers, etc.
- Perform cell culturing and in vitro assays, FACS sorting and analyses, RNA isolation, RT-PCR.
- Prepare laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment for study team.
Lab Documentation (20%)
- Verify adherence to protocols and accuracy of lab studies.
- Keep detailed notes from experiments.
- Participate and present in weekly laboratory meetings.
Other duties as assigned (10%)
- Demonstrate laboratory protocols to students, volunteers, and others.
- Perform related duties as required.
Lab Maintenance and Ordering (5%)
- Assist Research Scientist with lab inventory and ordering including: chemicals, reagents, samples, and other supplies.
- Operate other lab equipment including computer equipment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Two years of experience as a Laboratory Technician II, or equivalent; OR a Bachelors Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Medical education, including an M.D., with training, and experience and a background in rheumatology.
- 1 or more years' experience handling patient blood samples.
Experience using a KEYNES automated microscope.
Compensation, Benefits and Position Details
Pay Range Minimum:
$44,256.00 annual
Pay Range Maximum:
$52,104.00 annual
