Position Overview
The Sales Manager, Produce is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships via direct to market sales. This role focuses on developing and managing supply programs for seed potatoes and fresh produce, ensuring consistent quality, compliance, and reliability to meet the operational and marketing goals of Monette Produce.
Key Responsibilities
Direct to Market Sales
- Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with key purchasing partners across multiple regions.
- Negotiate, secure, and maintain contracts for seed potato and produce programs based on market and customer demand.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure alignment between production capacity, quality standards, and contracted supply requirements.
Cross-Border Logistics & Compliance
- Oversee the coordination of cross-border movements of seed potatoes and fresh produce.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for inspections, certifications, and compliance reporting.
Sales, Marketing & Buyer Relations
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail produce, food service, processing, and intermediary buyers.
- Serve as the primary contact for key accounts, working with category managers and procurement teams to fulfill orders and strengthen partnerships.
- Manage Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and related systems for order management and delivery coordination.
Operational & Production Alignment
- Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to forecast available product volumes and determine optimal marketing windows.
- Contribute to annual and seasonal planting plans based on committed sales and anticipated market trends.
- Monitor sales performance and market conditions to inform production and sales decisions.
Qualifications & Experience
· Must reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work without requiring a work permit or visa sponsorship.
- 5+ years of experience in agricultural marketing, produce contracting, or supply chain management.
- Strong knowledge of vegetable or potato production systems and market dynamics.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computers, including the ability to quickly learn new software applications and leverage digital tools for process improvements.
- Familiarity with CFIA and USDA regulations and inspection requirements.
- Experience working with EDI or ERP systems for produce transactions.
- Excellent negotiation, relationship management, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel within Canada and the United States as needed.
