Job Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This is a contractor, commission based job only. The commission split is 70% for any agent working with Sonny Express. We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Freight Broker to join our dynamic logistics team. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the vital link between shippers and carriers, coordinating freight movements efficiently while building strong relationships with clients and transportation providers. Your expertise in supply chain management, transportation planning, and logistics sales will drive our success in delivering exceptional service. This position offers an exciting opportunity to leverage your negotiation skills, sales acumen, and knowledge of transportation management systems to grow our freight operations and maximize customer satisfaction.

Duties

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients and carriers, managing ongoing account relationships to ensure seamless freight execution.
  • Coordinate transportation logistics by planning routes, scheduling pickups and deliveries, and optimizing freight movement using transportation management systems (TMS) and EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) platforms.
  • Negotiate rates, contracts, and service terms with carriers to secure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.
  • Generate leads through proactive outreach, inside sales efforts, and leveraging CRM software to expand the customer base.
  • Manage all aspects of freight quoting, pricing strategies, and dispatching to ensure timely delivery and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate data entry in logistics software such as AS400 or other TMS platforms, ensuring all shipment details are current and compliant with FDA regulations where applicable.
  • Develop and nurture strong customer relationships through effective communication, problem-solving, and account management strategies.
  • Collaborate with third-party logistics providers (3PL), NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier), carrier sales teams, and other stakeholders to coordinate transportation solutions.
  • Monitor shipment progress, troubleshoot issues proactively, and communicate updates to clients promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations including FDA guidelines for sensitive shipments.
  • Prepare reports on freight activity, sales performance, and operational metrics to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in supply chain management, transportation management, or logistics sales within a freight brokerage environment.
  • Strong understanding of B2B sales processes, inside sales techniques, and lead generation strategies.
  • Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS), CRM software, EDI systems, AS400 platform, and data entry accuracy is essential.
  • Excellent negotiation skills combined with the ability to develop long-term client relationships through effective account management.
  • Knowledge of 3PL services, NVOCC operations, carrier sales practices, and transportation planning is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with contracts management, pricing strategies, dispatching procedures, and logistics operations.
  • Ability to navigate regulatory requirements such as FDA regulations for specific shipments when applicable.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in data entry and documentation processes.
