Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. We are seeking an AMI Program Advisor to serve as a subject matter expert and strategic partner in the next phase of our Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program. This role provides technical guidance and project leadership that directly impacts customer experience, operational effectiveness, and long-term financial sustainability.
This position will report to the Technical Metering Operations Manager.
This is a benefited, temporary position that ends on 12/31/2027
Job ResponsibilitiesAs the AMI Program Advisor, you will:
Strategic Leadership & Policy Influence
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for AMI meter exchange and related customer policies.
- Advise senior leadership on metering operations, billing systems, regulatory compliance, and customer programs such as Time of Use rates.
- Influence policy and operational decisions that affect energy service delivery, safety, customer service, and revenue generation.
Program & Project Management
- Lead the planning and execution of ongoing AMI meter exchange and upgrade projects across the service territory.
- Coordinate work related to meter ordering, storage, customer communications, account setup, work requests, and opt-out processing.
- Ensure projects align with City Light's operational and customer service priorities, including remote disconnect/reconnect functionality.
Financial & Contract Oversight
- Assist in managing the AMI program's CIP budget and provide financial recommendations to leadership.
- Forecast AMI meter purchases, contract needs, and program costs.
- Monitor financial impacts and ensure continuity of operations.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the key conduit between SCL operations and the Customer Business Unit.
- Communicate program direction, policy impacts, and operational updates with internal teams, customers, and external partners.
- Represent Seattle City Light in discussions with other utilities, committees, and safety organizations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in Engineering and/or Computer Science, or Project Management. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Work is usually performed in an office environment.
License, Certification and Other Requirements
You must hold a current valid state issued driver's license from any US state to be verified prior to start date. Out of state license holders will be required to obtain a WA state license within 30 days of hire..
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Strong project management background.
- Experience with managing budgets and maintaining financial reports
- Experience with contract management and purchase forecasting.
- Background in creating and executing safety strategies to include maintaining relationships with other utilities, committee participation, with active and consistent focus on safety.
- Experience with AMI metering systems & programs

Additional InformationThe full salary range for this position is $50.08 to $75.12 per hour.
