This role is a part of the Procurement team within the Finance Division. The Analyst/ Sr Analyst, Procurement Data & Analytics supports Procurement operations by driving performance measurement, cost-saving strategies, and data-driven decision-making. It combines advanced analytics, machine learning, and scalable data infrastructure to deliver actionable insights, improve reporting quality, and enhance operational efficiency.

  • Support Procurement operations through performance measurement, cost-saving strategies, and efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to define reporting and analytic needs to deliver data-driven actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor industry trends and analytic advancements to identify opportunities for process and performance improvement.
  • Apply analytical models and data optimization techniques to support decision-making, policy development, and financial analysis.
  • Design and deploy machine learning and AI models to enhance business outcomes.
  • Manage a diverse report portfolio and develop high-impact analyses to improve Procurement performance.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses to support operational decisions and profitability.
  • Integrate new data sources to improve reporting capabilities, enhance data quality and define technical specifications for reusable data objects to simplify analytics in the department.
  • Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and structures for accurate, timely, and self-service reporting and analytics.
  • Contribute to Data Governance initiatives, ensuring proper data cataloging and compliance.
  • Serve as a data steward and support data access policies for owned data assets.
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Sciences, Engineering, Economics, or equivalent training/experience
  • 3-4 years experience in data science, analytics, forecasting, automation, or relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master's degree in Data Sciences, Engineering, Economics, or other related field
  • Agile project management experience
  • Knowledge of American Airlines data landscape and understanding of a variety of data sources across the business
  • Experience with data integration, data ingestion, ETL pipelines
  • Automating data ingestion from multiple sources into data lakes or cloud data warehouses
  • Logically structure analysis of complex issues and develop creative solutions to business and operational challenges
  • Querying large data sets using SQL; Scripting with Python or R
  • Business intelligence, financial reporting, and Statistical Reporting
  • Data visualization tools including Power BI and Tableau and strong Excel modeling
  • Familiarity with Data Security and Compliance, SOX compliance, and governance requirements

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Data analysis, Data Extraction, Data mining, Data Warehousing, Data Querying, Real-Time Data Processing, Data Quality Management, and Data visualization
  • Ability to demonstrate an aptitude for problem solving and strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Ability to logically structure analysis of complex issues and develop creative solutions to business and operational challenges
  • Knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, Alteryx, and analytics tools
  • Knowledge of agile project management
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Power BI, Azure, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities
