Position Summary:
The GIS Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Geographic Information System (GIS) applications to support GDOT s business needs. This role involves coding, debugging, and implementing custom GIS features and tools, as well as integrating GIS solutions with other enterprise systems and web-based applications. The GIS Developer collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the effective use of spatial data in decision-making processes and supports ongoing GIS project initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy GIS applications and tools using Esri technologies.
  • Customize and enhance existing GIS solutions to meet organizational requirements.
  • Develop and maintain web-based GIS solutions using the ArcGIS API for JavaScript and related technologies.
  • Integrate GIS applications with other enterprise systems and data sources.
  • Conduct testing, debugging, and performance optimization of GIS applications.
  • Provide technical support, documentation, and training for GIS users and stakeholders.
  • Stay current with new GIS technologies and development practices to recommend and implement improvements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in GIS application development using Esri ArcGIS software and associated tools.
  • Experience with ArcGIS API for JavaScript and related web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, Python, REST services).
  • Strong understanding of spatial data management, analysis, and visualization.
  • Ability to design and implement GIS solutions that integrate with other enterprise systems.

Preferred Qualifications / Certifications:

  • Esri technical certifications or equivalent experience in GIS development.
  • Experience working with state or local government transportation agencies (a plus).
