At Paces, we're a venture-backed climate-tech startup on a mission to accelerate the renewable energy transition. We build tools that help solar, wind, and battery storage projects move from ideas to reality by making sense of complex policy, permitting, and environmental data.

This internship is an opportunity to dive into a wide range of climate-tech research projects—from local energy policies and zoning codes to environmental datasets, land use mapping, and beyond. You'll be at the center of how data and policy come together to unlock renewable energy growth.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll gain exposure to multiple disciplines and get a taste of what it's like to contribute to a fast-growing startup working closely with our research and data science teams.

Potential projects include:

  • Researching local and state renewable energy policies, permitting processes, and community planning approaches
  • Collecting, cleaning, and interpreting environmental and land-use datasets
  • Tracking zoning codes and ordinances that impact solar, wind, and storage development
  • Exploring how environmental, policy, and geospatial data can be layered to accelerate renewable project development
  • Communicating insights to internal teams who are building tools for developers

Who You Are

We're looking for curious, flexible, and mission-driven people who love exploring new topics and aren't afraid to dig deep into research.

Must-haves:

  • Strong research and reading comprehension skills
  • A self-starter mindset with a bias toward action
  • Comfort with ambiguity and asking questions to move forward

Nice-to-haves:

  • Background in environmental science, sustainability, political science, liberal arts, or a related field
  • Familiarity with tools like Airtable, Google Sheets, or GIS software (QGIS/ArcGIS)
  • Experience working with datasets or coding basics (Python, etc.)
