Job Summary:

The Test Development Engineer Lead is a senior technical and people leader responsible for guiding a team of Test Engineers in designing, developing, and deploying scalable test automation solutions. This role combines hands-on engineering responsibilities with team supervision, ensuring timely project execution, high-quality test coverage, and cross-functional coordination. The Lead is expected to mentor engineers—typically Level 3 and above—provide technical oversight, and foster employee growth and team alignment.

The Test Engineering team plays a vital role in the manufacturing process by ensuring server and system level products meet performance, quality, and reliability standards before packaging. Positioned between assembly and final shipment, the team develops and executes testing strategies based on customer Manufacturing Test Requirement Documents or custom validation scripts. Their responsibilities span functional testing, failure analysis, infrastructure maintenance, and continuous yield improvement. The team collaborates closely with internal departments and global R&D teams to support both high-volume production and new product introduction (NPI).

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and leadership to the test development engineering team, supporting task execution, code reviews, and troubleshooting.

  • Oversee the design and implementation of automated test scripts and frameworks to validate server, system, and rack-level functionality for NPIs and production.

  • Supervise junior and mid-level engineers, assisting in performance feedback, development planning, and skill-building opportunities.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for cross-functional coordination with production, operations, firmware, project management, and HQ script teams.

  • Ensure project timelines, milestones, and test readiness goals are met, adjusting team workload and priorities as needed.

  • Participate in architectural decisions related to test infrastructure, helping define coding standards, version control practices, and diagnostics methodology.

  • Support root cause investigations and debugging of escalated test automation failures across multiple layers (hardware, firmware, OS).

  • Lead knowledge sharing sessions and contribute to process documentation to build long-term team capabilities.

  • Represent the test team in leadership meetings, technical reviews, and cross-site coordination forums.

  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions and drive engineering solutions in a Linux-based environment.

  • Effective mentoring, coaching, and conflict resolution skills within an engineering team setting.

  • Solid understanding of server architecture, firmware integration, and system-level testing.

  • Strong organizational skills for balancing multiple projects, task delegation, and milestone tracking.

  • Skilled in root cause analysis, cross-team collaboration, and testability assessment.

  • Familiarity with PXE boot, Git, automated test networks, and infrastructure tools.

  • Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with both technical teams and

stakeholders.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's preferred).

  • 3-5 years of experience in test development or systems validation, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership or supervisory capacity.

  • Demonstrated success in managing engineers and delivering high-quality automated test solutions in a hardware manufacturing environment.
