About Middle East Institute
Founded in 1946, the Middle East Institute is the oldest Washington-based institution dedicated solely to the study of the Middle East. It is a non-partisan think tank providing expert policy analysis, educational and professional development services, and a hub for engaging with the region's arts and culture.

Summary
The Programs and Events Department is the public face of MEI, organizing and managing its webinars, roundtables, panels, and annual conferences. The department works with colleagues across the Institute to ensure our events are timely, relevant, and reach the right audiences.

Internship Description
Programs and Events interns assist in the organization, promotion, and management of MEI's various events. Interns can expect to carry out events-related research, conduct internal and external outreach, assist with communications, and help with general administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in events-related research, outreach, and planning
  • Plays a collaborative role in interdepartmental communication regarding event logistics
  • Attends all webinars, roundtables, and panels, and takes notes
  • Analyzes event data to help brainstorm new public outreach opportunities
  • Assists with administrative and operational tasks as required

Educational Objectives

  • Gain practical experience in event management and communications
  • Develop skills in research, writing, data entry and analysis, budgeting, etc.
  • Learn about the event planning process in a think-tank/non-profit environment

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled or recent graduate from a Bachelor's program in International Relations, Political Science, Middle East Studies, Communications, Management or similar.
  • Strong and demonstrated interest in the Middle East.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, and multitasking skills.
  • Experience in event management, event marketing, and outreach/communications
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office (Salesforce or other CRM experience is a plus)
  • Enthusiasm for learning and developing new skills
