Position Overview

We're seeking a hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with exceptional design sensibility and technical depth to lead all technology and product development for CHYS.

You will architect, build, and scale CHYS across web, iOS, and Android, with a strong focus on performance, security, and design excellence. This role is ideal for a developer who can write world-class code, design intuitive user interfaces, and eventually grow and manage a small tech team as the company scales. We worked with an offshore team and have the set up for the App which needs to finish up and run.

You'll work directly with the founder to shape CHYS into a global, next-generation pet community app.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end product architecture, development, and deployment on AWS infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain CHYS for web, iOS, and Android using a unified scalable codebase (React Native, Flutter, or similar).
  • Oversee UI/UX design — improving the current visuals and creating/developing new, authentic, sophisticated designs.
  • Ensure top-tier security, performance, and scalability across all devices.
  • Integrate AI features to enhance user experience and intelligent pet identification.
  • Set and maintain clean, modern design language aligned with CHYS's brand.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, growth, and creative teams for seamless feature rollouts.

  • Manage tech resources, budgets, and external development partners when needed.

  • Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mobile and web app development.
  • Strong command of AWS, React Native or Flutter, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Solid understanding of APIs, databases, and server-side architecture.
  • Strong UI/UX and design taste — able to elevate and refine visual design quality.
  • Proven ability to deliver polished, high-performance cross-platform apps.
  • Experience integrating AI or machine learning tools is a plus.
  • Background in startups or early-stage products is highly desirable.
  • Passion for pets, technology, and human-centered design.
  • Must be very smart, quick, and not misunderstand things.

Duties

  • Develop and execute the company's technological strategy aligned with overall business goals.
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of full-stack applications utilizing frameworks such as React, Angular, , .NET, Java, Python, PHP, and SQL databases including Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Oversee enterprise IT infrastructure including cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), WAN/LAN networks, firewalls, and distributed systems to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Manage cybersecurity protocols adhering to standards such as ISO , FISMA, NIST standards, PCI compliance, and disaster recovery planning to safeguard company assets.
  • Drive innovation through AI and machine learning initiatives utilizing natural language processing and data analysis skills.
  • Implement best practices in software development lifecycle (SDLC), DevOps methodologies, Agile project management, and ITIL frameworks for efficient project execution.
  • Oversee IT governance, risk management, business continuity planning, budgeting, and strategic planning to support organizational growth.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in product management, system design, API integration, ERP systems deployment, and cloud infrastructure management.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on technology investments and negotiations to optimize resources and vendor relationships.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through leadership development and team management.

Skills

  • Extensive experience in computer networking—including WAN/WLAN/WAN architectures—and cloud computing platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including JavaScript (React, Angular), C#, Java, Python, PHP; database management with SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB; and system design for distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML applications such as natural language processing and machine learning algorithms.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity standards (ISO , FISMA), information security practices, firewall configuration, risk management strategies, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Expertise in IT infrastructure management encompassing cloud development/infrastructure, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and system automation tools.
  • Proven leadership capabilities in senior management roles—managing teams across multiple disciplines while driving strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent project management skills utilizing Agile methodologies; adept at negotiation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with IT governance frameworks like ITIL; experience with business intelligence tools; understanding of ERP systems; compliance standards including PCI; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; knowledge of FISMA regulations; disaster recovery planning; NIST standards; ISO certifications; and FISMA regulations.
