About the Family

We're a busy family in Washington, DC, with two children (10 and 6), grandma, and a beloved (and large) Bernese Mountain Dog living with us, as well as an auntie who lives with us part-time. Both parents work outside the home in highly demanding jobs, and we're looking for someone to take full ownership of all domestic operations and bring calm, order, and initiative to our household.

This is a full-charge house manager role for someone who thrives in complex environments and brings structure, clarity, and follow-through — not just helping out, but designing and executing household management systems to ensure that everything is clean, organized, regularly maintained, and running efficiently and beautifully behind the scenes.

We're looking for someone who is meticulous, proactive, highly organized, and confident navigating high expectations. You'll serve as the central point of contact for all things home-related, taking full ownership of domestic operations so the family can focus on their work and time together.

The Ideal Candidate is
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive — you spot what needs doing and do it
  • Warm, professional communicator who can collaborate with family members
  • Comfortable supervising others (e.g., landscaper, dog walker, vendors)
  • Meticulous about organization, cleanliness, and quality — and not afraid of high standards
  • Experienced in high-level home management or estate settings
  • Discreet, trustworthy, and respectful of family dynamics and privacy
  • Calm under pressure and unbothered by a bit of chaos
  • Comfortable with large, lovable dogs
Core Responsibilities
Household Management & Organization
  • Design, implement, and maintain organizational systems and regular maintenance schedules for the entire household
  • Daily tidying, dishes, watering plants, refill humidifiers, turn on air filters, taking out trash/recycling, and upkeep; ensure all rooms are clean and reset daily
  • Identify and proactively address household issues (e.g., regular changes of air filters, water filters, dryer vents, etc; regular piano tuning; maintenance, repairs, chipped paint, HVAC servicing, gutter cleaning, etc.) and interface with vendors and service providers for home maintenance and projects
  • Coordinate seasonal swaps (clothing, linens, bedding, décor)
  • Keep the home guest-ready; prep for holidays, family gatherings, or overnight guests
  • Ensure home is fully stocked and running like a well-oiled machine
Inventory & Errands
  • Track and reorder pantry items, household supplies, toiletries, and pet needs
  • Manage Amazon, Costco, Target, and other routine household orders
  • Run errands: dry cleaning, returns, donation drop-offs, etc.
  • Sort and manage mail/packages; break down boxes, organize & make payments for bills, as well as reduce paper clutter
Laundry & Linen Care
  • Handle all family laundry (clothing, bedding, and towels)
  • Handle all home laundry (dish towels, blankets, etc.)
  • Iron, steam, and prep outfits for the upcoming week if requested
  • Manage rotation and care of linens and towels
  • Maintain a clean, stocked, and well-organized laundry space
Pet Oversight
  • Coordinate with dog walker
  • Monitor pet supply stock and place orders
  • Brush dog weekly
  • Schedule regular and as-needed vet appointments and grooming
  • Keep the house clean and pet-hair free
  • Occasional dog sitting (or organizing for dog sitting) when family is away
Vehicle & Property Oversight
  • Schedule and manage regular and as-needed vehicle maintenance (cleaning, fueling, oil changes, etc.)
  • Maintain seasonal home systems — hot tub, HVAC, landscaping, etc.
  • Supervise weekly outdoor cleaning lady and manage landscaping
  • Serve as point of contact for vendors and property needs
Light Family Support
  • Provide backup childcare if needed (rare), help with transitions or light supervision
  • Unpack from travel and manage gear storage
Administrative & Personal Support
  • Manage mom's Gmail inbox: delete spam, pay bills, coordinate with neighbors re shared expenses, flag important items
  • Support annual events like planning the family Christmas party (managing vendors, set up, and support during the party)
  • Help manage family calendar, track household reminders, register kids for camp, enroll kids for school, misc administrative tasks as requested
  • Pay bills
  • Suggest and implement systems to improve home flow and reduce decision fatigue
