Senior Structural Engineer (PE)

About the Role

An established structural engineering firm is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join its growing team in Richmond, CA. With a diverse portfolio across the Western U.S., the firm delivers innovative, efficient structural solutions for a wide range of project types including data centers, multi-family residential, industrial parks, mixed-use developments, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, client-facing experience, and a proven ability to lead complex projects from design through construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design and analysis for new construction and renovation projects, including tilt-up concrete, steel, and wood-frame buildings
  • Manage and oversee engineering tasks on mid to large-scale projects (e.g., data centers, multi-family developments, industrial buildings)
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and developers to deliver code-compliant, constructible, and cost-effective designs
  • Conduct site inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with plans and safety standards
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including structural calculations, specifications, and construction drawings
  • Mentor junior engineers and drafters, supporting technical development and quality assurance
  • Ensure timely delivery of project milestones while maintaining high standards of quality
  • Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and assist with construction administration
  • Stay current with building codes (IBC, CBC), seismic design standards, and industry best practices

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred
  • 7+ years of structural engineering experience with a focus on design and project leadership
  • Strong experience with tilt-up construction, data centers, and multi-family residential projects
  • Proficient in ETABS, RISA, SAP2000, RAM, and AutoCAD/Revit
  • Knowledge of structural materials including concrete, steel, masonry, and timber
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
