Position SummaryThe EWL Technician is responsible for measuring, assembling, and inspecting wire rope and synthetic sling products to ensure each item meets the required Effective Working Length (EWL) specifications, safety standards, and customer requirements. This position plays a key role in the production and quality assurance of lifting and rigging assemblies used across multiple industries.
Key Responsibilities:- Measure, mark, and verify sling lengths to precise Effective Working Length (EWL) standards.
- Fabricate and assemble wire rope, chain, and synthetic slings using swaging, pressing, or splicing equipment.
- Operate test beds and proof-load machines to verify capacity and ensure compliance with ASME and OSHA regulations.
- Tag, label, and record all completed assemblies for traceability and certification documentation.
- Conduct visual inspections for damage, wear, or irregularities before and after testing.
- Maintain tools, dies, and test equipment to ensure accuracy and safe operation.
- Work from fabrication sheets, drawings, and supervisor instructions to complete orders accurately and efficiently.
- Assist with inventory control and organization of wire rope, fittings, and rigging components.
- Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and quality control processes.
- Support general shop and material handling operations as needed.
- Prior experience in rigging, lifting, or fabrication environments preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to measurement accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, load charts, and fabrication documents.
- Familiarity with wire rope, chain, and sling assemblies a plus.
- Basic math and measurement skills (tape measure, calipers, micrometers).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and work in a physically active shop environment.
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.
- Shop setting with exposure to wire rope, lubricants, heavy lifting, and powered equipment.
- Requires standing, bending, and operating machinery for extended periods.
- PPE required (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, etc.).
